2011 135 DCT issues
I recently picked up a 2011 135i DCT with 103k miles. I put about 1,500 miles on it with no issues. Last week I was out of town and the car sat for the week without being started. I started the car today and everything seemed normal. I have a check engine light for one of the 02 sensors that hasn’t been causing any issues so I have yet to deal with it. After I started the car but before I started driving, I used a scanner tool to make sure no other codes had showed up and to try to clear the current codes. I didn’t have any success clearing the codes, I suspect because there’s still an issue with the 02 sensor. While cruising at about 45mph the car randomly began downshifting randomly. It dropped all the way to second gear without me doing anything. Once I let off the throttle it returned to normal for a minute or two when it duplicated the same issue. I pulled over and tried to reset the transmission adaptations. I drove again and didn’t experience the issue for a few minutes. At a stop, I put the car in sport and manual mode and accelerated a little bit harder than before (about 50-60% throttle) and at about 40mph the car suddenly downshifted on its own again. There was a harsh feeling toward the rear of the car and the tachometer briefly dropped to 0 even though the car was still on. Has anyone run into similar issues or have any idea what this could be?

Yeah, this is a weird one. Based on the symptoms, I wonder if it might be a sensor somewhere like a wheel speed sensor sending the wrong signals.
I've had my trans randomly downshift like you mention, but it was also accompanied by a transmission temperature warning light. One of the temp sensors internally gone bad. |
