Got hit by a motorcycle on the drivers side rear Q panel. Went to pull off freeway to x change info, and my water pump failed on the highway. Never talked to the guy and payed for all the body work, and water pump/thermo.
Car is 08 135i 78k miles. payed 880$ to a local shop when BMW asked for 1700$ and told my insurance that that pump failure is common around 50k and not in any way a result of being hit. Pissed. |

Thanks for everyone's response. Lets keep this thread going so we can see how big or a problem this is. So far it looks like not too many guys are having waterpump failures.

Point taken. I have added N51's to my original post.
I want EVERYONE with an electric water pump e8x car to vote!!! I want to see if most of the failures are early production cars, ie: '08's and '09's... or if its an across the board failure deal.

I am only counting 4. But I think this is because these are all low mileage results. From what I remember reading around here is that after 60k miles your waterpump/thermostat is on borrowed time.

Yea... I have seen some posts with lots of failures after 60K miles... that is why I created this thread - to actually see how many failures we have had. But so far only four failures kind of makes me feel a little bit better about my electric water pump.
