I had the Y-cable alreay, so I used it again.........
I think it`s more solid/rigid then the Apple cable......... Both cables work obviously........ |

Now that I think about it some more the issue about not being able to play Playlists etc may be when using Bluetooth Audio. I haven't driven my car in about 4 weeks now due to cold wet weather. I will check again next trip out.

I have a 2011 135i with music integration and iDrive and I have tried both genuine Apple cables and aftermarket cables. The iPhone/iPod does not even register as connected unless I use the BMW Y Cable. You can tell me that it should as much as you like but it does not. This has nothing to do with a cable, there is a new SW option called Commbox (2011 ), without it playlists and artwork won't appear functionally. With Commbox installed any cable will work fine.
It also enables Bluetooth phone prep and Bluetooth music streaming just like apple tv so you don't even need a cable!! Job done.

It has more to do with production date than model year.
09/10 production and later are fitted with the Combox and use the apple cable for connection. 08/10 production and earlier use the BMW Y-Cable for connection.

So, as I asked earlier, it is to do with 6FL/6NF/6NR.
My car is 08/10 build so I have the 6NF. All of you guys who are saying that it works with the standard Apple cable must have 6NR - although it seems that some of the later 6NF units do support it. This is what I've been able to find: Quote:

Yes. I incorrectly assumed we were talking about 1M's here, which AFAIK are all later production and do not need the Y cable. Since Harlequin's is a early '11 model 135i, that explains the inability to use the usb cable.

I couldn't tell you which subforums any of the threads I post in are actually in PS: I'm looking into the idea of retrofitting the 6NR/Combox... I know that it's ridiculously expensive but other have done it and I wants it |

http://www.radtech.us/Products/cable...-extender.aspx I coil up a couple of turns of the cable within the tray of the snap-in so as to keep the female end of the cable from popping out. From there it currently goes to a 64GB iPod touch in the tray adjacent to the snap-in. This allows me to use the plug-in functionality with the iPod. If I want to use it on my phone then I snake the cable out of the side of the armrest and close the lid.

Maybe you want to edit your earlier post then so that no 1M owner gets that far in the thread and takes your firm assertion as being correct and places an order for something they don't need on that basis...?

Back to 1M:
As it seems interesting to stream audio over BT or usb, can somebody pls help with the below: - Is there any reference material that links the use of standard Ipod cable (not Y cable) to the presence of the Combox. If so, kindly post/link it. - How can a 1M owner establish if the combox is in their vehicle, for example for options 6FL, 6NN (together lumped as 7H9) and no NAV, would there be a combox in the car? - Can a combox be retrofitted in a No-NAV car, to make audio streaming over bluetooth possible? thx for your non-guess inputs |

I know it's late to the party but mine DID come with this cable but it did not connect to my iphone 4S. I figured out that the BMW iPhone connector is square and the iphone 4S is rounded. I took a Dremel and rounded out the edges and it plugged in perfectly with perfect sound.
I was just going to buy another adapter but started to read about problems with cheap ones where they would hum due to engine noise or not charge correctly. I figured BMW adapter was better. Just slightly round out the edges and it fits iPhone 4S perfectly. The sound is great too! |
