3rd brake light

I had my 3rd brake light finally crack out and off of the mounting hole. After about 1 1/2 years and 10000 miles it finally gave way.

Concours BMW had the part in stock and apologized for the inconveinance and promptly fixed the problem.

just realized mine was cracked a few days ago. cause by closing the trunk too hard i guess. felt it should be covered, glad to hear it is

Had my second one replaced today...they just keep them in stock for me at this point...

I think the problems with the 3rd brake light had more to do with how they were installed than a defect. Perhaps the problem will be solved in the later models due to factory installation methods. Anyway, there was a service bulletin about this issue (SI B 63 10 08) that you might find useful.

The service advisor informed me that BMW had updated the 3rd brake light with a shock - proof damping system.
