Raceland 135i Downpipes on eBay for $199... What?
Came across this just now on ebay..$199 for downpipes.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Racel...item1c0e15dd97 Is this serious? I saw another thread on here about someone trying Raceland headers on their car, but haven't heard anything else. Im not seriously considering getting these, don't worry, just wanted to know if anyone new anything about this company and/or this product from them. |

Why would we scrub it with steel wool?

I may give these a shot. It's funny how people will shell out 1000 bucks for one set of DP's or whatever, and then dismiss another set because they cost what a normal set of DP's should cost. People crack me up. What makes $999.00 DP's worth $999.00? Good material is good material and good welds are good welds. Glad to see at least some people not trying to pass on the "bmw tax". Hopefully these are good pieces.

These should work just fine considering it's just tubing. The only question will be fit.

I agree with fit... but I agree it is two pieces of strait pipe. How badly could they have screwed it up? which is why I went with a used set of vk which are lost in the mail so if they dont make it to me in a week I will consider picking up a set of these.

Piping is piping if they hold together well and fitment is good then they are doing their job. This is the norm for pricing on dps, paying 600-1000 for dps is ridiculous thats why I haven't picked up a set yet.

I could agree with trying a cheap muffler, intercooler, etc. But downpipes are not easy to install and they are exposed to some pretty significant heat, etc. I'd bet these fit but if they don't you'd have to reinstall your stock set and do it again. For sure these won't be as big or well made as others so you'll get less gains and probably less durability.
To me, downpipes are an aggressive mod anyways. BMW will try to void your warranty due to them. You may pick up some droning, etc and you also have the emission concerns. If you are gonna bother with the mod, IMO do it right. However, I would go with VK products if trying to be thrifty.

I agree completely, it is an aggressive mod (emissions, warranty, part durability). Warranty certainly would be GONE @ BMW. Maybe if you bought an aftermarket warranty you could get away with DP? . . . just a thought.

Just by looking at them they look like they would fit. But they might be a little harder to work with. If I already didn't have downpipes I would get these for sure. I had ebay headers on my old 3 series and they were awesome. I say go for it if you don't have downpipes.

Well I looked into Raceland, and they have a TON of products for almost every make and model of euro cars (I went to thier netherlands website). So this isn't one of those companies that spring up, make a few pieces for a few select group buy customers and thats all they do is that one profitable moments worth of production. This is a full blown company. So that definately gives me the reason to try em out since theyre only 200 bucks.
Edit: None of that was geared toward ar design or any one vendor. Just generalizing a lot of manufacturer practices.

Are these 2.5 or 3 inch? If they are 3 inch I would buy them because the person who supposedly sent me my vk dp's didnt give me a tracking number and I have no way of knowing if he actually shipped them 10 days ago lol

Raceland's website sells them for $14 cheaper, at $185. Coincidentally, Shipping is $14, making them cost exactly the same...

The only real danger with something like this is the quality of the SS they're using. You've really got no way to know exactly what material they've used utill it's way too late, and they're rusted and leaking.
On the other hand, even if they're the lowest grade stainless you can buy, they're still going to last for years, and at that price you could replace them three times for what the more expensive DPs cost. It's also worth mentioning that there have been reports of one of the more expensive pipes using lower quality materials on their flanges, so it's sort of a crap shoot either way. If I didn't already have catless DPs on my car, I'd give them a shot. |
