What tires are you runing?
I am looking to switch to Pilot Sport 4S but there is no available size for the front tires.

A lot of people here love the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. I can also give the Kumho Ecsta PS31 a good review, especially as a beginner going to some track days, and the price point...
I just bought a set of the 'Stones for my car. I've graduated from (and destroyed) the Kumho's...

I'm running the MPS4 (not S), 225/40R18 at the front, 255/35R18 at the rear.
All the reviews I saw said the MPS4's were better in every way than the MPSS's and the MPS4S's were better again. I've never had MPSS, so I can't tell you first-hand how they compare. |

According to a joint test by Tire Rack and Car and Driver
The MP4S is better than the MPSS. I've had both and agree. However, the second best dry road performance tire available, and the best performance for the buck, are the Continental ExtremeContact Sports which are about 20% less that the Michelins. According to the test results, the Continentals are equal to the MPSS on dry roads but not as good as the MP4S, and better than either Michelin on wet roads. Check the results on Tire Rack here https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=223
Hopefully the Forum police will not quash this thread because there is supposed to be no tire discussion here. It must only be done in the tire forum as I've been told several times! Gasp! |

I've been running Achilles ATR Sport on my car and a number of friends cars for years. They've been great for a budget tire. I typically change wheels/tires every 3-4 months so they've been more than sufficient for my usage. We'll see how they work on the 1. I'm having a set installed on my wheels tomorrow so I'll be able to respond shortly

I am running MPS4S, after having run MPSS for years.
The MPS4S is an AMAZING tire, and I cannot believe how good they are on wet pavement and even standing water. They inspire so much confidence when it's wet. OP: What size were you looking for for your fronts? Is it the case that they don't make the size you are looking for or they just aren't available locally?

What size are you looking for?
Where are you? I'm South of Boston and I have two front MPS4S that are 225/40 r18 (fit stock size sport/M-Sport wheels). They have about 150 miles on them. I mounted them and only a week later bought new wheels that required a wider tire. Trying to unload them. You can buy these from me practically new at a discount and order rears from Tirerack. PM if interested.

Tire Rack salesman talked me into trying the General G-Max RS. I never intended to buy General tires, however, they are very highly reviewed. I guess I will see for myself after I get them installed and get some miles on them.

I've had both but on different cars. To be honest I took the MPSS out on a wet track in the 128i and with those tires I was very more confident at reasonable track speed for the conditions. No concerns on public roads.
Can't compare back to back in same conditions but had the MPS4's on the Z4M in the rain and it hugged the highway at 60mph almost like it was dry. Was quite impressive. Both are good in the wet so I'd have no qualms recommending MPSS if MP4S is not available and the price of that tire last time I checked has gone down. |

On dry pavement the 4S is slightly better. On wet pavement they are light-years better, and the PSS was no slouch.

Firestone user here.
Cost/return, best tire hands down. They ware great, I got over 25,000 miles on rears with a full season of fun time (2,xxx on track miles). Double that on fronts. I can't justify spending more for a marginally better tire with lower ware rating for a street car. 225/255 will get you the best pricepoint for them. |

Just got two of my four Firestones (245/45ZR17, square) today, they are meeeaty! And they smell wonderful, tires smell great (especially after working with a differential all day).

215 no, 225 yes. You should upsize to 225/40 R18 in the front anyway.

And the two I have for sale with only about 150 miles on them are 225's. I had to move up to 235's when I went to 8.5 front wheels.

Why not 255/35?
