Don't know what causes it. I've owned 1 e30, 3 e36's and 1 e39. The e39 was the only one that I remember doing it. Mine was a 525it, touring, so maybe the 6 cyl vs the 8 in your M5.

You'd care if you had a car and experienced it. It is very annoying if you are very attuned to your car and every little squeek, rattle, sound etc. that shouldn't be there bugs you...

Hmmm, you may be on to something, it could certainly be the V8 vs V6 setup. It would have royally annoyed me in the ///M5, heck, it annoys me now, one of my (few) peeves with the platform.

I wonder if people in Europe with 4 cyl have this issue.
