Trying to Identify a Part
Found this piece and having trouble identifying even with some sort of part number stamped on the side of it.
I installed AA headers and replaced my engine mounts at the same time. I lifted the engine up to help with these tasks. After completing the work and putting everything back, I found this piece resting on top of the arm that is connected to the engine block and where the engine mounts mount to (passenger side). Those are the only clues I have.. I'm guessing it popped off when I jacked the engine up. |

If you google image search "E82 engine mount" you should find some pictures on ECS's listing or other sites that show that piece attached to the engine mount itself on the top next to the stud. I'm not sure what it does exactly, maybe it's a backup if the mount were to completely collapse?

According to ChatGPT: Purpose of That Pad Vibration damping: It’s a small mass of flexible plastic/rubber tuned to absorb specific vibration frequencies coming from the engine mount area. Harmonic control: Helps reduce droning, buzzing, or resonance transmitted to the subframe — especially with inline-6 engines like the N52, which can have a characteristic low-frequency shake at idle or certain RPM ranges. Impact protection: Also acts as a bumper if the engine mount bottoms out during extreme movement (hard acceleration, pothole, etc.). |
