I am new to this site, but I am sure this topic has been considered at some point. I just purchased a 2008 135 vert CPO with sport package and was offered the tire and wheel warranty for $1250 for 5 years. That seemed a bit pricey, but given how expensive it is to replace the run flats and rims, I figured I would go for it. Now I am having some regrets. I can cancel the policy within 30 days and I am considering doing so. I am guessing opinions will be mixed, but my inclination is cancel and keep the $1250. I would love to here some thoughts...

The stock wheels are notoriously easy to bend, BUT they won't replace or repair them unless they are significantly damaged, such as when they leak air. On the other hand, hit a big pothole and you very well may get a flat. Depending on the dealer, the RFT can be $400-500 each.

If I had to do it over though, I would use the cash I put towards the warranty to some nice non-runflats and get something along the lines of the M mobility kit (compressor + fix a flat goo), which I also have.

I just bought a 135cv and an $850 tire wheel guarantee- within two days I cancelled the guarantee- mainly because I don;t like the run flat tires, and you're forced to accpet the same tires with the guarantee.
I've spoken to Tire rack and they can replace a whole set of tires for $550 with non run flat

The run flats are extremely hard riding.

1. If you can avoid our DC metro area potholes, I'd cancel & self insure. My wife had to replace 4 wheels in 6 years on her Saab before she learned the trick of spotting them early.

2. Don't forget that you can always replace a set of damaged or worn tires with non run-flats at roughly 1/2 the cost (I'd recommend Radial Tire Co. in Silver Spring).

DO IT. My 08 135i has seen two flats that had to have the tire replaced. Cost to me? $0. Sadly, the stock tires wear down way too quickly but they cover any tire you put on there. At least, they do with the warranty I bought.

Thanks for the all the replies...I am still unsure...$1250 just seems like a bunch of money, but I would feel like a dumb *** if I cancel the policy and end up needing to replace three or four tires and/or a couple of rims. From doing some browsing it seems like most people paid around $700 for a similar plan.

I think Tire Rack has a road hazard program too, except you purchase it per tire. I think it's $15-20 per tire.

CANCEL IT. You'll need to have 2 bent wheels and popped tires for this to benefit you and you can easily find a full set of wheels WITH tires for less than the price of that policy. Don't be fooled.
