I'd hate to have the car built after they resume working (like the old saying about never buy a car built on a Monday).

Guys, don't read into this too much. It is not uncommon for manufacturing facilities to have 1 or several weeks of down time per year. During these downtimes they work on maintaining the tooling, updating robotics, facilities upgrades, model year tooling changes, etc.

I work for a company that is a large scale manufactuer and we routinely have down weeks at our various plants.

The article specifically mentions lack of demand and worldwide economic conditions for the closing, not maintenance.
