125i Brake upgrade to F30
So as we all know, E82 125i brakes are crap.
so looking at this post before: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1306682 CHOICES There are basically four or five different types of Caliper and Rotor upgrades you can make. 1. The calipers that come stock on the 135i and also appear to be sold as 6 piston BMW Performance Brakes. (I did not go with this upgrade due to numerous posts regarding the pistons fracturing when tracked.) 2. M-SPORT CALIPERS (Blue four piston calipers) 3. Blue M-SPORT Four piston Brembo Calipers 3a. BMW M Performance Brake System, Yellow F30 F31 F32 F33 F34 F36 Big Brembo Kit. 4. F30 - 335i –Standard model Calipers (Grey Brembos) 5. Big Brake Kit from Stop Tech, Brembo, etc. My question is, where would F30 320i brakes fall in line? Reason being, the 135i, 335i, M Sport etc always want a premium from breakers. But are the common F30 320i/d brakes better than the setup on the 125i? if they are plug and play, then i would have better brakes at a decent price. i dont track the car, its a daily, A to B. But the brakes are def something that bothers me on the car. can this work? have a good weekend all!

I haven't really pushed my 128i (M Sport, but some kind of coilovers in the front and non-stock springs / dampers in the rear) hard for extended runs yet, but I've found myself ... let's say underwhelmed by the brakes a few times already. I'm watching this thread |

If you track the car then go for the bigger brakes, but, if you're like me, and just need some better stopping, lets hope someone can comment and guide us in the right direction.

I don't think there's many people that have upgraded to F30 320i brakes because everyone is looking for the multi piston setup usually. You'd have to go to realoem.com and compare part numbers and disc / rotor sizes to see if you're actually getting an upgrade. And then from there it's about looking at how the rotors are configured to see if they fit....bit of trial and error unfortunately.

The 320i brakes are almost as small as the 125i brakes I believe. I think they are 312mm. Not worth it.
A good budget upgrade is the E90 335i front brakes. The calipers are direct bolt on and then you use a 348mm rotor. The calipers are readily available used for around $100 USD a piece or less. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1132152 |
