Sella 3.0 tour thru the Dolomites...
Well... we had another wonderful driving tour event - yet again! It's always so great seeing old friends from past tours. Plus we made quite a few "new" friends this year. All in all I think we had 21 cars with 24ish people attending. Some of us "die hards" drove a "pre tour" starting on Tuesday. We drove thru the Alps from France, Germany, Austria and Italy. It was so much fun.
I want to thank Wade, Luc, Rudi for helping plan this year's event. We didn't have any glitches and it made for such a nice event. Dackel Tours AG could not have done it with out you guys - a BIG thank you!! It was also very nice to have our founding member Rick, being able to fly out(from the US) and join us this year! We really need to have more of these get togethers. Maybe in a few years we will have a US tour. I'll post my pictures soon... but for now here are some pics from our fb group members. Everyone from our tour please post your pics here in this thread. Once we have everyone's pics... I'll move this thread to the general section. Dackel Sella 3.0

Well this year was another fantastic tour through the Alps with my European 1Addicts friends. It was great seeing and driving with everybody again. This trip was 2600km making it my longest trip yet. And I think it was probably the best. In addition to driving some of the absolute best roads in the world we pulled our usual antics of invading gas stations, occasionally blocking traffic (so I heard...I wasn't there ) and exchanging gestures with the friendly bicylist...it's all part of "the way we do." Remember, it's not an official tour until you've been honked at or scorned by an old couple in an Audi. After all those kms driving "the way we do" with 20+ BMWs we had zero breakdowns and nobody bent metal. Ironically, after all that we almost lost a 1M to the "Rambo Cow" on the 2nd to last pass of the tour. Those cows were not impressed...maybe they were Mercedes fans.
From the hotels to the route planning putting something like this together is not an easy task. A big thanks to Luc, Rudi and David for all the work putting the tour together. I think we all took the same photos just with our own cameras. Here are a few of mine.

I'm even thinking ahead to when one day we are all back in the USA... we should meet up and do a little "Euro 1Addicts" thru some US National Parks or mountain ranges. But remember Wade... "it's for the kids"... Here are some more pics from our pre-tour... Our route around Sella Rounda... pics from the pre-tour... Photo Radar in Italy... Most of these pics were from various members of our group. Here they are in no particular order. I must say that each year we have more fun than the last. This year went very smoothly and I know everyone had a very good time.
I look forward to next year's "tour". In fact some of us are already planning it!! The End.

Ok, you didn't really think THAT was it now did you>?
Some back story on our Sella 3.0 a small group of us who have participated in most of our tours: Stelvio 1.0, 2.0, Sella 1.0 and 2.0 and a few get togethers here and there... a small group of us started our tour on Tuesday. Most of our group we would be meeting up in Zell am See, Austria. Quite a few guys were driving down from Munich, so it made sense to meet in Zell am See and then drive in convoy thru the Gross Glockner and then the back way into Sella Rounda. But for our small group of six(later plus one) die hards we would meet up in Western Germany and drive thru France, then back into Germany for the night, then thru the Swiss Alps and into Austria(near Imst) have lunch at "Oiler's 69" and then back into Germany, drive the famous Tatzelwurmstrasse and the Rosenfeldstrasse, then stay the night near Berchtesgaden(Ramsau). The next day we would go visit Eagle's Nest and then off to meet up with the "gang" in Zell am See. For that Tuesday's meeting point we decided to meet near Hermeskeil(Germany). So I booked a room in a small hotel and decided to drive out Monday afternoon. As usual, I stumbled across some interesting places. Here are my pics from the "day before" our big tour began... Dackel Our Walkie-Talkies for our tour... packed my bags... (I have a full size spare tire somewhere in there... ) Hotel Jägerhof, Hunsrückstraße, Reinsfeld Not quite sure why they had this old train in the park here... Once I checked in I headed for the closest Esso to tank up for tomorrow's adventure. But I stumbled across some cool places.... first next door to the Esso was this sweet burger/steak restaurant... and it was dinner time for me! As I drove back to my hotel I spotted a sign for a "KZ Gedenkstätte" memorial. In German "KZ" means concentration camp(Gedenkstätte means memorial), so I was curious and went in to pay my respects. I had never heard of this place before. But it was cool to see that it still exists. Its one of those places off the beaten path. Anytime you see a brown and white sign in Germany... it is something interesting. It can point you to a castle or park or in this case a memorial. Concentration Camp Hinzert - Gedenkstätte Hinzert The crosses are to remember the 144 different countries that the victims came from. Not individual people. Then I came across this cool place... The museum was already closed, but you could still walk around outside and see some cool planes. Back at my hotel I found a brochure for the museum. I gotta come back for a visit. Our meeting place on the A1... a little impromptu photo shoot at the autobahnrastplatz picking up one more member of our crew at the Globus in Saarbrücken... our hotel for that first night - the day after... Everyone asks me to take photos of the food in Germany when I do one of these tours. I always forget. This was the only time I took food pics(!) on our trip! lol some local German beers at a gas station in the Black Forrest area... Alpina kombi Fast forward to Sunday after our Sella 3.0 adventure was over with. I felt like still having an adventure... so I drove to Pfunds, Austria. I've always loved this part of Austria. And the Post Hotel in Pfunds is such a nice hotel for so little money. You get a three course meal included with the room rate of 70 euros. And the small city is quite charming. Its on the way to Stelvio and Solden(Timmelsjoch Pass) are only about an hour or so away. Festung Nauders - just before you enter the town of Nauders. The fortress was built on the Reich Pass - and was used in WWI as a defensive fortress. https://www.google.de/maps/place/Fes...83!4d10.492925 And in the town of Nauders is Castle Nauders. Its also a restaurant and a hotel I think. We ate lunch here many years ago on Stelvio 1.0 I always like to go grocery shopping when in other countries. You always find cool local stuff. ...the famous tower located in the middle of a lake/dam. https://www.google.de/maps/place/Kir...1!4d10.5363876

Kirchturm von Altgraun... (as seen on the cheese above)^^
After I was finished grocery shopping... I felt like getting lost... I spotted a brown and white sign for Castle Berneck - and I decided to go see what I could find. It made for some nice pics. Afterwards I headed back to my home in Bavaria. Schloss Berneck... not open to the public but it made for a nice picture! https://www.google.de/maps/place/Ber...7!4d10.7018423 and some of my souvenirs from my Sella 3.0 tour...
