HP Autowerks radiator on the 135i race car

Hi All -

On the same day they did the Borla install, HP Autowerks also put in their improved radiator.

They have 2 shops - this is the one on Fig in Old Town Santa Barbara

Here is their improved radiator

Peter first removed the fan and then the OEM radiator

They are able to get in another row of veins without exceeding the overall thickness of the OEM radiator (OEM radiator on the left). Also having aluminum inlet and outlet is an improvement.

You can see the improved air flow capability

Peter then checked the slots that hold the installation tabs on the fan.

Peter does a test fit of the new radiator

Peter drills a couple of screw hole for the final install

New radiator in, just needs the fan

I think IF you want extra cooling - one should order the PPK higher wattage radiator fan too.

Do you think HP's fan will bolt right up to the Performane Kit fan with no issues? I'd like to improve all cooling aspects of my car in the near future and so far ar design and now HP are the only ones making radiators. I'll be following this thread.

The 850w fan that come with the PPK2 kit has the same exact mounting points as the OE 600w fan. In fact, it is a bit easier to fit the 850w fan in the tight space behind the radiator, as the shroud around the rear of the fan is trimmed back at points making it slimmer is certain sections.

I'm surprised nobody has looked into just using an M3 radiator and a Big Tom IC. I would think that would be the less expensive, easier route to go.

Larger fan(more CFM rating) can be beneficial at lower vehicle speeds when there is little to no air flow to the radiator.

As vehicle speed increases the affective of a larger fan is diminished as air is forced through the kidney grilles and other area to the radiator. On the track, a larger fan would have no affect on cooling. There is one benefit I can see with an upgrade to the PPK fan is when you are coming off of the track and just driving ~15mph in the pits, you will get a much quicker cool down if you didn't properly do one on your cool down lap.

We upgraded our oil cooler - a must have for us.

I've already upgraded the oil cooler. I was wondering if you had to do a dual cooler kit or not?

Just one for us.

One thing that did seem to help, even though everybody says it should have no effect. We did remove the carbon buildup in the intake manifold.
