Year one of the 1
I have a 128i production date 2008-06-16 and it does not have the "Year one of the 1" on the start button bezel. Yet another 128i with a production date of 2008-02-06 has it. So looks like somewhere between February and June of 2008 BMW quite with the special bezel. Anybody have any other information?

Look at the label under the hood - it will show the model year of your car. It is most likely a 2009...
My 2012 MY 135i was manufactured in May 2011. |

I know there is a already a thread on this with conflicting information so I thought I would post up with my real life example and see if anybody else has come across the same thing.

I test drove a 2008 Sedona Red 128i 6MT at a local dealer last year and I distinctly remember it NOT having the "Year One of 1" bezel... I even asked the sales guy about it but was met with a blank stare, lol.
I am not sure what the exact production date was though... |

Yes, your car should have the "Year One Of The 1" bezel. I owned an '08 135i with the year one bezel.
Would be some coincidence if you guys were talking about the same car.

Problem Solved
Alright... now that I am convinced my car should have the bezel I have just ordered a new one. Problem solved!
p.s. I had to order the whole start/stop switch but at least I can get it. A few bucks cheaper used on eBay but I ordered new. |

I remember it being in a great shape save for a couple of nicks on the front bumper... I think that is the one. Glad you got it. It was priced well AND a 6MT! At a time I was still trying to make up my mind if I want this or an 135i... ended up with the latter. |

Huh...
Funny thing, I've got the opposite story. Mine is a model year '09, with all the second year goodies. But it's an early build date for the MY09, 9/2008, so it's still technically built in the first year, and came with a Y1OT1 bezel. I like to think it's the best of both...

Pretty much established that if the build date is not later than calendar year 2008 it gets the Y1ot1 bezel. Easy-peasy.
Often they got scratched or scuffed and were replaced, not always with the correct part. As we all know too well not everybody pays attention to such details, dealer techs included.

Yeah, that year 1 bezel probably only matters to us 1ADDICTS. We know its secret powers.

This may be one of those classic parts in the future.
MY2009, built in Oct. 2008. Most common question about my interior is, "Why is one spelled as One and as 1 in the same sentence?" EDIT: Someone could 3D-print off some custom 1Addicts bezels. Ooh...

Just out of curiosity... Would you share the part number and cost for that new 1 of the 1 bezel?

Travesty corrected!
Just to complete the post I am showing the finished product.
First picture shows the incorrect power sucking switch next to the beautiful correct one. The second picture shows it installed in my car. I have no idea why my 2008 did not have the correct bezel but this travesty has been corrected! |
