Year of the one?
So I figured my 1/09 production 135i with m-sport pack didn't qualify for the "year of the one" because it doesn't have the cool start button (just a normal smooth one). Yesterday the book shows up saying it is "year of the one" Is the cool start button a part that is able to be ordered with vin# or what?

If you got the book maybe they have extras and thought it would be nice to send the extras out, but as far as the start button, who knows maybe it can be ordered.

When did you order? Do you what your production date was? I was early Feb production, wondering, hoping I'll get lucky too...

Same thing happened to me. See my thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=245828 My production date was 1/09, I believe the first or second week of January.
What do you plan to do? I am pondering giving BMWNA a call/email asking if I can get the "year 1 of the 1" start/stop button mailed to me. |

I'm gonna run by the dealer on Monday, the letter says its supposed to have the ring around the start/stop button. Its not a big deal as others have pointed out but I like how the year of the one trim looks and it was one of the little things i was looking forward to when i ordered the car in 08.
I doubt they were just getting rid of "extra books" as the car's vin number is in the front cover and there's a cert of authenticity in the back |

I sent an e-mail to BMWUSA, and they responded accordingly:
"Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding the status of your commemorative Year One of the One BMW 135i Convertible. The Year One of the One 1 Series will build through the end of February 2009. |

I got my year one of the 1 book today for my Jan 09 build 135i. I'll be making some calls to get my Year One of the 1 starter ring. I deserve it!

when was the first 1 made? weren't they out in europe way before US? does year 1 mean year 1 for the US? Mine is 3/08, it has the ring on it, I was just curious when "year 1" started

Yeah year 1 applies to year 1 in the states. I think production began Feb08 for US consumption and will apparently go thru Feb09 production. Although none of our cars built in 09 are getting the year 1 starter bezel. Its pretty confusing and I was told by a "1 specialist" at BMWNA shortly after I ordered my car in Jan. that year 1 cars only went through Dec08 production. Its both annoying and confusing, I won't even bother them for the bezel I just want my book. OK I want the book first then I'll probably ask for the bezel but just to keep it with the book. I actually like it better clean- it was a little cheesy looking IMO, nice but somehow cheesy.

It isn't really but if you plan on keeping the car long term it will be nice to have one of a relatively small number of commemorative year 1 cars. I and others I'm sure made the assumption that if you didn't have the starter ring engraving that you didn't have a year 1 car and would not get the book and certificate (way more meaningful than the starter ring itself) but that would make too much sense. Its just something nice for the obsessive car nut to have and like a fine wine will get better with age in a sense as it becomes a piece (if not hugely significant to many) of BMW history. Can you tell I want this book?

Same as the OP for me- mine was built 01/09, and I do not have the year of the one around the start button, but today I did get my book and certificate. Would rather have the book- did not care about the ring around the start button. Was a cool surprise to get the book!
