Why not? We do recalls on US cars all the time.

Yeah it's absurd...
1- the dealer can't "see" my VIN for recall (I Service there all the time)
2- called the BMW Canada recall hotline, lady has little info on VIN but calls the US while I hold
3- comes back saying there's a recall for the vehicle, but I have to make a "Recall Clearance Letter", which costs 500 dollars

So, in essence, I can get the recall done, so long I pay 500 bucks.

I have yet to write to BMW Canada and NA, but this was very frustrating. Especially because BMW proves time and time again Canadians (and our lives) are less important than Americans', because we don't have recall laws

There's another member here with a similar problem. His car was originally purchased in Germany and was shipped here to the US where he purchased it and last I heard he's having difficulty getting his VIN registered with BMWNA so he can't get the recall done either.

Is he sure it's the same part? Was it recalled in Germany?

Call again & get it done buddy. Took me 2 calls in Vegas but second time they had the part and it was in/out the next day

And when they eventually do replace it they are putting in the exact same part. Can I make my next recall appointment for 6 years from now?

Could you drive over the border to a US dealer and get it done for free? Good reason for a mini vacation. !!

And I bet you can join the lawsuit using a US address.

It was Matticus.

And I think my car was done a few months ago. I have to double check as my car was in at the dealership for other work not primarily for the air bag.

I assume it's the same part, and you'll have to ask him if it was recalled in Germany but I doubt it.

I got the airbag replaced today! My SA just emailed his warranty and got it done in less than a day.

So the dealer was actually better than BMW Canada. Unfortunate for BMW.

I eventually got a check from the settlement. So a new airbag replaced and a check for $280 if I recall...
