1M Key Hole discolouration

Hello all,

Looking at a 1M for sale and it looked in great condition with the exception of the key hole (no, not a joke). Has anyone else had discolouration? Looks like corrosion at first glance which flagged some concern. Not sure if common or if others have had.

Cheers,

John

Looks more like old grease or some kind of lock lube then rust to me. Mine gets a similar build up but more blackish in color. This was on my e46 m3 and my 135i. I never added anything to it so I think it’s a factory lube or something. Maybe the 1m has been driven less and the brown is just less dirty grease?
