PLEASE HELP car wont start after MHD
I just tried to d the MHD flash and my car won't start. It is throwing lots of errors. I didn't get past the 'Connecting to ECU' stage so I exited the app, tried again. Car tries to crank when starting but won't start. All manner of errors on the iDrive. PLEASE HELP!
Here is a link to the MHD debug logs I was able to pull off my android device: http://www.filedropper.com/mhdlogs Last edited by cozmicf; 01-10-2017 at 04:05 AM.. |

try reconnecting the mhd and flash it back to stock map keep trying. if you started the flash even the very begining of it and it disrupts it can cause issues and go all crazy. This is why you must try to revert back to stockand if that doesnt work try reinstalling the same map. what happend did u interrupt it ?

I've been talking to someone at MHD about this problem, they had a look at my debug logs and they reckon the device is losing connection so they think it is probably the cable that is the problem. I bought the recommended DCAN cable from cable-shack so it's probably not that, but it may be the OTG cable, will try another cable tomorrow. Last edited by cozmicf; 01-10-2017 at 06:18 AM.. |

Did you make sure not to open or close any doors, windows, the hood, trunk, etc. while attempting the flash? Did you have it on a battery charger while you attempted the flash?
Any of those things will mess up the flash. Did you backup your stock files through MHD? My first move would probably be to try and flash back to that through MHD. Last edited by dbx73; 01-10-2017 at 08:05 AM.. |

I opened a door, but this was still at the 'connecting to ECU.. connected stage. Yes, I had a battery charger.
Once I can connect to the ECU again I can try a restore. |

you definetly interrupted the flash right at the begining, ive done this with cobb before but cobb went into safe mode and it fixed it. im new to mhd ( i literally installed it myself 2 nights ago) but by opening the drivers door the igntion gets turned off which means it was interrupted, even more obvious now that you are getting these issues. when it happend to me the priming sound of the pump was going off everytime i put the ignition on as if it was in the middle of a flash, scary. If i were you id be pluggin in the otg and obd cable in different sequences in an attemt to try and get it to read it on your andriod and flash to stock

So I asked Vincent (vtl) from these forums to come and try to flash my ECU back to stock with all the BMW tools he had (ICOM cable, WinKFP, etc). He reckons the ECU is actually bricked as he could connect to the OBD port and communicate with all the other modules except for the ECU, even after trying all the low level tools he had.
I've been in contact with MHD on Facebook and they assure me that the ECU can't be bricked. Waiting on some more information from them. Assuming it is bricked, Vincent told me I have three options: 1. Remove the DME myself and get it bench flashed by a workshop in Melbourne 2. Get a BMW dealership to order in a new DME and fix it 3. Order all the parts - DME/CAS/etc and do it myself Option 3 is probably off the table. Option 2 will probably be pretty expensive - does anyone know how much this would be? As for option 1, I'm not too confident in myself to start pulling things out from under the hood and get under the intake manifold to get the DME out. Does anyone know how to do this with the N55 135i and would be willing to lend a couple of hours to help me do it if I do decide to try this? Is this option likely to work? Anyone know which shops around Melbourne have experience with this kind of stuff? Any advice is much appreciated. Last edited by cozmicf; 01-11-2017 at 03:58 AM.. |

An update to this situation. The DME arrived back in Melbourne this week after having been sent to Germany and being revived by MHD. The car is up and running at the moment with the stage 1 tune, but I will be monitoring it over the next few weeks to make sure it all works as it did before. The power delivery is now much smoother, and it definitely feels like it has more pull.
I have nothing but positives to say about how Martial from MHD helped me through this problem. He was always responsive and willing to help and I could not recommend his customer service more. Much appreciated Martial, thank you. Also, the app has been updated to prevent this problem for occurring again. Last edited by cozmicf; 02-23-2017 at 04:04 AM.. |

What exactly happened? Was it a bug in the app version you were using?

I am unsure of the exact details, but the app and car it seems got into a corner case state where multiple flashing threads were started in parallel. In any case, this has been patched up in the new version of the app.
