VRSF Downpipe install

I've seen multiple threads stating the bung for the VRSF Downpipe is on the wrong size and people seem to be having a ton of difficulty installing them. I've heard that all intake parts should be uninstalled so slack can be added to the sensor lines. I've installed several down pipes in the past, it's usually a 30 minutes process. This sounds like it would take hours. Does anyone have experience installing the VRSF and is it truly this difficult?

Howdy. Just put one in two weeks ago. It was kind of a nightmare for it. All that said. I've learned my lesson.

I would 100% recommend removing the intake (first two sections and airbox) and the plastic cover on the hood. This allows you access to the 02 sensor wires at the harness and down to the downpipe.

I'd also PB blast all those bolts the night before.

For me, that was required because there wasn't enough slack in the wires to get to the relocated bungs. After moving them around off one of the guide clips, I had enough space.

If it weren't for the o2 sensor cable issue, it would have been a two hour job I think.

I’ve done the install and removal a few times now due to having emissions. I find it very easy. I do remove the intake which takes a few seconds. I disconnect the o2 sensors from up top and pull the dp with the o2s still connected. Never have any issues and usually can have it on and old one back in in about an hour.

Make sure you have a E18 torx socket for the downpipe hanger onto the transmission bolt. take off undertray, Unclip both o2 sensors from the top, take off the 4 bolts at the bottom of the downpipe, unbolt transmission hanger bolts (Need a lot of extensions!) and then unbolt v band flange and then slide out the downpipe, make sure you unclip the o2 sensors from it's little guides cause it will get caught on them and you'll damage them. You'll be pulling out the downpipe with the o2 sensors on. When the dp is off transfer each o2 sensor one at the time and make sure you put them in the correct spot. Also, mark which plug goes into which at the top of the car.

No it won't man, it sucks on jack stands or ramps but on a lift it's a relatively easy task. Grab a buddy to help you it makes things a lot easier!

I did mine on stands and it was a real pain....but....I also learned a lot that will speed up the process next time. I could do this on a lift in under 2 hours, I'm certain of that.

A proficient install can do it on a lift in about 2 hours for sure.

I guess it's too bad most normal people don't have lifts in their home garage, I wish I did...

If I do this, I'm actually planning on driving the front on ramps and then jackstanding the rears to make more room. Just confirming again, is jacking up the differential safe to get stands under the rear 2 jack pads? I've never actually jacked a car up by a diff or by any center jack point before, just the sides, so I'm a bit cautious

I used to jack up the rear of my car on the diff until I saw how much the diff moved even with the poly bushings. I ended up screwing 2 short pieces of 2x4 together and using that between the jack and crossmember right behind the diff.

I don't see the need to jack up the rear. just raise the front to do downpipes..

Yes but the idea is I get my rear up equally so I have more room to fuck around with underneath. Specially incase I need to mess with the midpipes or something as well.

I dunno, if I'm just swapping DP's should I need to loosen or remove the mids?

Right behind the diff is where the 2 braces meet , there's a large bolt there it is a good spot to jack up the rear. I always add some 2x10's under the rear wheels if I'm also jacking the front.
And loosening the mids hanger is only way to go

So when you all are undoing the O2 sensors up top and then removing the stock dp with sensors attached, how do you then get the sensors back up to attach behind the intake?? Do you just snake them up once the new one is bolted up? I can’t visualize this. If I did this it’d be a catted vrsf pipe as I have no need for emissions fuckery.

Drop them in from the top. If you are pulling old dps then you have enough room to screw o2 sensors in afterwards. Or drop a string down from the top and tie it to the sensor and pull it up

Remind me again why I can’t just unscrew the sensors from the old dp then remove the dp and screw em into the new one while they’re hanging. Is there just not nuff cord length and room?

Anybody have a picture of where the other end of the O2 sensors plug into behind the intake?

But is there enough room and slack for me to just remove the stock pipe's sensors, leave em hang and then install the new dp and the sensors underneath the car?

I do kind of see more the point of undoing them up top then using string or something to pull the sensors up from under.

Any differences/tips on installing a catted VRSF dp on a N55 vs catless? I currently have a catless VRSF dp and hate the smell, so much so that I stopped driving it altogether for last 2 months.

Also, while the mechanic is in there what else would be easy to swap out? Inlets/outlets?
