Out of warranty injectors
Hi guys,
It appears I have been struck with the ever so popular N54 injector issue (Code: P29DC Cylinder injection shut down). I am the second owner and my car has been out of warranty for a few months now. I am wondering if Australia covers the injector replacements beyond warranty grace periods. I contacted the original owner and he tells me the car has never had a HPFP nor Injector replacement. The car has a solid service history from AC and I bought it at 20,000km's. It is currently at 39,000. My car has been flashed with a Cobb and has several mods here and there, if I was to bring it in I will have to put the stock airbox and dp's back in. Has anyone had success with this in the past or am I better off buying the parts and just replacing them? Cheers, Sam |

Would leave all the mods on as it wont make much difference, now that its out of the warranty period.. BMW will only change the injectors under the "campaign" if the individual injectors barcode numbers are listed under that replacement campaign.. For all you know they might have been already tested by the original dealer during a scheduled service.. |

Got it on two separate occasions. Came up with the code on the Cobb along with "reduced power" coming up on the iDrive. I turned the car off and back on and it drives fine again.
The car develops flat spots/misfires at full throttle occasionally under load between 2500-3800 rpm. Two occasions its gone into limp mode it stops with a loud miss/bang at 5000rpm. I have backed off the tune and driving on 1/3rd throttle until I rectify this. |

Check with your dealer... in the states there is a HPFP recall and also one for the injectors on some early cars. Its worth a shot.
Injectors have come down in price a lot. I think they are only $150 each now. Plus you need to have them coded. G.L.

I believe there is an injector replacement campaign. All 6 of mine were replaced under this a couple of months ago. I have extended warranty on my car, I'm not sure if they would have done it if I didn't have warranty though. Worth a shot!!

Fuel shut off occurs as the control unit is trying to save the engine. As it has direct injection the fuel going into the cylinder at high pressure would soon destroy the piston or cylinder so it shuts off. I'd say you probably have a bad fuel pump and i would be keen to see your other fault codes and symptoms. Fuel shut off can also occur if you have bad or tired spark plugs or air leak etc, so without you posting any symptoms it is a bit hard to tell.
