The blower motor recall is finally happening in Australia!

The blower motor cable recall is showing on the recall list for Australian cars now! Glad to know it won't burn down to ashes, after the fortune spent on maintenance and mods lmao

Use this link to enter your VIN, and check your car's recall list:

Thanks for the info. Is this the same reason that some X5 models have caught alight?

Perhaps I'll wait for them to practice on other people's cars before I let them do my E90. Removing and re-fitting the dashboard seems like a big deal.

Doesn't show up for my 09 135i, is it just E9x's?

Didn't even get the injector recall either, so I did them myself after 2 failed/leaked.

Is yours an 08?

edit: seems its just the 3 series

The general consensus so far, is that this recall, isn’t showing for any 1 series cars when you put your VIN through the recall website (I didn't realise this before posting on 1addicts)

Both 1er and 3er use the same part, and if it’s faulty on the 3er, obviously it’s faulty on the 1er too. BMW Australia probably haven’t uploaded the recall data for the 1er to their website yet.

Mine is a 2007 E92 335i.

Yeah good thinking, tbh I replaced a dashboard before on an early E90 325i, it didn't come from factory with iDrive, so I installed a double-hump dash (second hump houses the iDrive screen). Took a bit over 7 hours, but the car ended with way less rattles after the new dash went in. If all fasteners are torqued to specs, it shouldn't rattle (was very low from memory, about 4Nm for most fasters).

So if this is done right, we should hopefully end up with a quieter cabin for our 8+ years old cars

Yes, that's right, plenty of BMW's randomly caught fire around the world including a few E90's, because of the blower motor wiring. There was actually a white E92 335i that caught fire in NSW earlier this year (insurance paid him out thankfully).

Some photos from when I replaced the dash on that E90, pretty involving:

Depends on the extent of the damage. Stock of the repair cables have started to trickle in but there are several variants of the repair kit, depends on the condition of the affected area.

Not all vehicles will need to have the dash taken out. That is a worst case scenario.
