How fast do you corner?
In track experience doesn't count.
This morning I was doing 60mph on 25mph higway ramp. Yesterday, took 90 degree right turn into a single lane at 35mph. It was amazing that DSC never came on. How fast do you turn? |

Today, i took a turn (that I take often) at about 120km/h. The limit is 70-80km/h. My old E46 compact would start slipping around 100km/h...but the e90 was solid as a rock...didn't flinch! I took another turn, that my e46 could comfortably cope with at 80 at +-105km/h today...I could've gone faster, but I'm still being cautious in my new car...don't wanna damage her!
This car handles so well...I am officially impressed! |

the tires squeal so much you can't have that much fun without drawing too much attention to yourself.
it does OK though, but the Z4 hands it it's butt on every cornering aspect |

On an unkown corner with a yellow speed advisory, I know through experience it will generally be safe to do 20 mph faster than the advisory. On a known corner the sky''s the limit. There's a fabulous little viscious, twisty, uphill off-ramp I take a lot (Arques off Central for the Silicon Valley locals) marked 25 that I like to take at about 60, but once I took it at 60 with cruise control on and I almost killed myself - the cc makes a big difference when the car pulls hard when you don't really want it to or expect it to - that was kinda scary...

corners?
Is it me or are people confusing "corners" for "curves" and "turns?"
I would consider a corner an actual street corner, like a 90-degree angle. Sorry, don't know why but I had to weigh in on that very important detail (whew!).

Has anyone actually took a turn so fast that dsc light flashed? I am more than willing to try but haven't found the street safe enough nor capable. Pavements here in va sucks !!! Loved florida for fast highways and wide local streets. And of course, you don't have to pay or get points for speeding tickets. I used get 3 tickets a year but my record was always clean. But then, it was so damn hot so I moved to virginia.

Yeah I had an E46 non sport package 325i....
Then I got the E90 330i with sport pack- It feels utterly solid as a rock on turns. Like it's on rails compared to my old car. |

it's actually pretty easy to get the DSC light to come on, it you throw it around a corner hard enough it'll come on and cut power from the engine.
The bridgestones (330 sport) are better, (I have them on my Z4) and I hardly hear anything from them on the street, but on the autocross track they scream like a stuck pig |

Fellas and gals, I don't want to sound like the forum police, but please be careful when you're pushing the car to it's (and your) limits on regular streets, ESPECIALLY with dsc/dtc disabled. Just make sure you remember and know how to countersteer when your rear end slides. Because during one of those "oh shit!" moments, it is very easy to forget and panic instead.
IMHO, disable the dsc/dtc ONLY when you're on the track or autocross. |

I misjudged a lane closure the other day and had to swerve out of my lane (cones) in front of an articulated truck within yards at over 90mph. No problem (I absolutely sh*t my pants!!) The car handled amazingly. (I know, not a curve or corner but demonstrated the handling of the car) My Girlfriend thought there wasn't a problem until I shouted "Jesus" which then scared her!!
