Adding "Factory" Satellite Radio

I am in the process of purchasing a 09 135i (privately, from a good friend) and I'll start by saying that I can't wait to put it in my garage. I've wanted a BMW for years and now it is just days/weeks away.

Anyhow, I drive a lot every week and satellite radio is something I'd really like to have in the car. The car doesn't have satellite radio installed currently, and I was wondering what it would take to add it?

I did some searching, but came up with mix results as it seems that it depends on what type of pre-wiring was done depending on the original options. The car does not have iDrive and only had a 1/8" jack for an mp3 player (no true iPod dock).

Is there any way to tell if satellite radio is an option for me? I don't want to use an aftermarket unit - I'd like it to be as-if it came from the factory.

Thanks in advance.

Doug

There's a Sirius pre-wiring in the MY2009 135i so the only thing needed is the module and the coding. A brand new module includes one year of service.

That's great news! Is the coding a DIY or will I need the dealer? Is there a DIY on installing the module and/or a part number for the correct module?

Thanks!

EDIT:

I came upon this page:
http://www.bmwpartscounter.com/showA...ssembly=151739

65209142852 - $490

I think that the part I need is the one above, can anyone confirm?

Thanks.

I contacted a local BMW dealer yesterday afternoon and was told I'd need this tuner:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...gid=4462&tab=1

It doesn't mention the 1 series specifically. I did give the dealer my VIN. Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure I buy the right thing.

I know that these parts are listed for my 135i MY 2009 and build date 12/2008. I'm buying them from a member here and he had it in his MY2008 and it worked fine.

If you are not in too much of a hurry I should receive it some time this week and have it in over weekend. I can let you know if indeed it all worked OK. I preliminarily checked in the trunk to very all connectors were there and that they were the right type.

I spoke to the parts manager at my local dealer again and it seems that the PN you posted is the same as the link I posted - I just happens to be the part (on their site) that includes a free year of service. So it sounds like we are on the same page.

I am planning to go ahead and order it, but I'd really like to hear your experience with the activation/flashing. It wasn't clear to me if the dealer has to do anything to the car once the device is installed.

I'm curious why a different trim panel is required?

No need to take an SA's word for it. Just remove the trunk floor panel and take a look. It merely lifts out. Bet the space to the left of the amp is empty though....
