No REST in 2010?

I noticed that the Residual heat option on the 2010 1 series are gone, just searched my manual and nothing. yet in the 2009 and 2008 models they have rest..
hmm anyone konw why this was done? I really liked it on my old 3 series

I was disappointed not to have REST in my '10 either. It would have come in handy on cold mornings while waiting for my train. I don't know why BMW deleted it, but I imagine it has something to do with cost.

can't you hold the right hand button for a few secs? I don't have a '10 but thought I read that somewhere.

they took the actual button away, but if you turn the car off with the ignition out, press the fan increase button, and that is how rest turns on

Tested it out....it does not work when the ignition is out. However when the start button is pressed twice and the car is taking energy from the battery then you can use the fan / ac / heat. However, rest does not seem possible in the car. If it had been , it would've been clearly defined in the User manual.

That is disappointing. I use REST all the time from Oct-Mar. I can't believe so many people bitched about having to adjust two knobs for the temperature, and that BMW decided to appease them by removing a useful feature.

There's more to the Rest function than just the fan. By pressing the fan button as you describe, all you're doing is blowing air across the heater core, and it will cool down in a matter of seconds.

The actual rest function runs the electric water pump to circulate coolant from the hot engine into the heater core, and that's what makes it last as long as it does.

Also, you can leave Rest on and walk away from the car. If you just turn the fan on, it will turn back off when you lock the doors and walk away.

That makes sense.

They just altered the programming for the module a little, and reused the existing buttons.

I don't know maybe I'm doing it wrong?
I just drove the car out for 10 minutes got the temperature of the engine up to 200. Drove it back home
Turned off the car to where the only thing lighten up was the Idrive screen, Held down ALL For a few seconds and nothing happened. turned car all the way off, removed the key tried it again, nothing. I'm really not sure, Anyone else with a 2010 tried this yet?

it should work with the key removed and the car off, no power to anything.

try reading your manual, it is in there it is subtle though

I am pretty sure this is not a feature in 1 Series anymore:
Examples:

Sorry about the large res...wanted you guys to be able to see what im talking about

It isn't in the heating section similar to picture 1 of the 2010 book either. BMW would not make a feature, and not document its usage in the manual...im' sure about it.
