Okay..It's no big deal...look at the previous generation 3 series and the current generation 3 series, there isn't a big difference! Plus, BMW may remodel in 2011, but that doesn't mean BMWUSA has to! I wouldn't stress about it and live in the moment =)

I'm tempted to say who cares, because the coupe coming out in 2008 is loaded with just about all of the features that I think comprise the perfect car, and at an awesome price. Okay, I'll say it...who cares? :iono:

OMG! They're going to remodel it in 2017, too, so you might as well wait until then.
Remember: cars don't always get better with each remodel. Sometimes they just get heavier and more complicated. Sometimes they get uglier (WRX, anyone?). You can grow old waiting for the perfect car to come out. Or you can STFU and drive. |

when u finance ur actually paying for the car with an added interest, but with the convenience of paying it off in several years. if u know that the models are going to be updated then you should consider leasing. however, if you buy a car right now and then trade it in for the next generation model it might cost u more (so if ur going contemplating this route then consider just leasing the car). I think BMW has traditinoally had a 5-7 year refresh rate on models. Correct me if I'm a little off, but I think E36 was 1992-1998 and E46 was 1999-2005. Hard to imagine a 1-series redesign anytime before 2013, based on precedent. That said, the 5-door was given a mild facelift for the 2007(?) model year and was introduced in 2004. But I doubt the coupe would be significantly remodelled on that timeline.
Anyhoo, the model we'll be getting looks awesome anyway, so unless you're the type that needs to drop you're iPod Video in a puddle to justify buying the iPhone, I think the first generation coupe will be satisfying far beyond 2011...

You're correct BMW refreshes/re-designs their cars every 5-7 years. I don't think anyone re-designs their cars every three years. Wouldn't be cost effective.

The 1 series was released in fall 2004, which means that there will be a redesign in fall 2011 (2012 model) if they stick with the 7 year cycle. For the 3 series, BMW usually releases the coupe 1 model year after the sedan is released. If the same holds true for the 1 series, the coupe wouldn't be redesigned until fall 2012 (2013 model). That would allow the 1 series coupe to be the current model from spring 2008 through fall 2012, which is a 4.5 year production run for the US. A 5 year cycle is very typical for Toyota and Honda, so I think a 4.5 year cycle is decent.

I've owned an E36 M3, an E46 330i and now an E92 335i. IMO there is a marked difference between them, generally the newer generation becoming softer and number each time. But the biggest difference in the soft/numb category is in the E46 -> E9x transition. Again IMO. Of course, BMW has occasionally done the other way too - with the Z4 generally being considered a better car and a better drive than the previous Z3. So I guess the answer is, who knows?

There is no sedan planned for this generation though. Due to the fact that in Europe sales of lower engined 3er sedan and Touring models would be cannibalised. The lower engined 3er and 3er Touring contribute greatly and greater outsell the mainstream D segment automobiles. |

It could come to market as a 2009, I'm not sure what the US regulations are anymore for when a model year can start.
But we have a contributor to this forum that's bet body parts that the 1er comes to the US market as a 2009 MY. He'll be glad there's hope then. ; -) |

You would see a second generation hatch...not the coupe though. Look how BMW staggers their product line. Just because it's called a 1 series doesn't exactly mean it's on the same re-design schedule. Look at the 3 series sedan and coupe. Remember that the 1er coupe is also new to Europe as well.

Of course it will. BMW isn't going to screw a new model by tacking on a 7-month-old 2008 designation. Stupid. Pointless. Ain't gonna happen.
