New Member, New Build! Project Delta
Hey Addicts,
My name is Chris, I live in the greater Indianapolis area. A quick introduction then we'll get into it. I grew up in Minnesota and joined the military at 26, traveled a bunch for that but spent most of my time in the service in Florida. I was a helicopter mechanic and search and rescue air crew in the USCG on the 60 airframe (Hence the user name), but my love for all machines started when I was in high school. The past few years I have dedicated myself and have rebuilt a few e46's. I was an active member on the e46fanatics forum and always loved that group of awesome individuals. It is time for me to add another chassis to my inventory, the 135i. To me, going to another chassis is like getting a new cell phone, I fkin HATE it. So many new things to learn, the quirks, the flaws, the hidden expenses on projects, etc. But I fell in love with the 1 series when a buddy of mine had one when I lived in Florida. In comes this project, "Project Delta". I use the phonetic alphabet for all of my projects so I can keep track of all of them. on to business. I bought this shell for $650. I have attached pictures of the exterior. There is practically nothing on the interior except for the main dash. My first objective is to inspect the entire body/chassis for cracks, blemishes, etc. I know in the e46 chassis the rear subframe mounting points on the frame were susceptible to cracking and a few other points needed to be reinforced for track/drift/drag. My first question to you 1 series EXPERTS is, does this chassis/frame have any wear/weak points that need to be reinforced with fabrication? Are there any points outside of the obvious that I should be inspecting? |
