1M Fire in boot/trunk help
My 1M went on fire in the boot when testing at the track, cat less down pipe std system MHD tune trying to find out if the exhaust started it or a wiring problem. It melted the boot lock so had to crowbar it open to put the fire out. Anyone else had this problem? Your thoughts please as next time I may not make it to the fire truck and the car could burn to the ground.
Looking for battery box and all the wiring from the boot along with the carpet and all other parts, are there other models that run the same loom in the boot. I know the battery sits at a different angle and more to the right of the centre line. I am in Victoria Australia. When I find how to load photos I will load them, I have followed the instructions with no joy Rgds Dave |

It looks like it started at the battery. Anybody know if 1M's had the battery wiring recall, and if so, if this would be the result of not having the recall completed?

Sorry to hear of the damage and glad you were okay...silver lining being driver/track personnel were well prepped in this situation, and the fire was put out quickly. Being what it was, it appears to be minimal damage.
My best guess as far as a most probable cause: Could the battery have been replaced without proper coding/registration? Especially if the battery type (AGM or Lead) and/or Ah were different than what was originally registered/coded in the car. Or less likely: The battery was of a different physical size and was not properly secured...and higher lateral G loads while on track yielded too much battery movement? You asked if possibly the exhaust caused the fire...was the muffler or any part of the catback exhaust aftermarket? If OEM, I would doubt it was caused by the exhaust. If aftermarket, I still highly doubt it, but it could be *slightly* more likely. Let us know what you find out...definitely a sad day. I hope you get the 1M back on the road/track soon.
