$3700 for a PS install at the dealer? Am I being robbed?
What is the normal cost of getting the PS installed at the dealer? Mine wants $3700. Don't these installs take about 5-6 hours and cost $1300 on-line?
I don't mind a premium at the dealer but that seems way too high to me. TIA

i got a quote less than that for an indie shop to purchase and install kw v3's, vorschlag camber plates, align, corner weight, and set ride heights.
are you thinking of spending $3600 for stock BMW performance suspension?

3600 quote - 1300 parts = 2300 labor
2300 labor / 120 hourly rate = 19.2 hours It doesn't take that long to do the PS. Dealer quote for work should be around 8 hours, and it really does take that full amount of time, our suspensions are not easy to work on. Your quote should be around 2250 if my maths are correct. So, yes, you're getting ripped off. |

Buy the suspension and then do it your self, or get with the local BMW club and bribe someone with beer to help you out.
Installed it my self in 8 hours. It really is a 2 man job but can be done by your self. |

Yes that's highway robbery. I paid a local shop about $450 to install mine. Took them 6 hours and it was the first one they've ever done. 8 hours is crap. My dealer wanted $1700, and their only excuse for the high price was that I will get 12 months warranty on the parts & labor. Well the parts are warrantied by BMW for 12 months, and the labor warranty is worthless since just about every shop has some sort of warranty on their work.

Thanks everybody. I just got back from the dealer and they changed their time to 9.5 hours @ $140/h. I guess around here they haven't done many of these. They charged $1650 for the parts. Comes out to about $2900+. I agreed to it because I don't know anybody else I would trust to do it. But, my butt hurts a little.
The good part is that it looks like I'll have it on Friday. YAHOO!!!!!

If the shop is charging more than 8-10 hours of time, they are either ripping you off or ey don't have a tech who knows what he is doing. I have friends who can install coil overs in 3.5 hours because they know tricks wi suspension disassembly, etc. Mach V Motorsports in Sterling spent most of a day on mine for a little more than $700. At included time for ride height adjustment, suspension alignment, me pestering them, etc. It was well worth it, but the install doesn't take two frigging days.

Did mine myself. I've done a total of 5 cars so far. Got it down to about four hrs using a floor jack and jackstands. A shop shouldn't take long at all.

wow is all i have to say
took 3 people to do my coilovers on jack stands on my buddies drive way, got it done in just under 3 hours, if we had a lift would have been much less anything over 2-4 hours for a professional shop is ridiculous |
