BMW rims scratched! Suspect tire shop :(
Well...I finally got my new wheels/winter tires installed this past weekend. I used a tire shop that was recommended by a few forums in the gta. Well once I got home, I checked the removed oem bmw 18" sport wheels/tires (to make sure I got the right ones...lol). Anyways while I inspected my rims, I found that two out of the four of them had curb rash along the edges. One rear rim and one front rim. The rear one has more damage...it has 4 separate curb rash damage. The front one only has one. All of them look the same, and are black in colour (as if the paint burnt or some plastic rubbed on it).
Now my car is only 5 months old, I clean my rims every two weeks and I did not notice any curb rash before (currently the rims are really dirty in the pics since I haven't cleaned them). Also, from previous experience with my older cars, I am extermely careful when backing out or parking and stay far away from curbs. I have not hit a curb yet. I am the only one who drives the car, except my dad who drove it maybe a total of 4 times since I got the car. Anyone know how this damage can happen? Can it just happen from regular driving (i.e potholes, train tracks?). Is it possible the tire shop did it? I took the wheels back to the tire shop, but the guy said there is no way they did it, as expected. Anyone have an idea how much it will cost to repair this damage or recommend any good rim repair shops It seems I have some bad luck with this car! First the windshield cracks, and now this! Its so ironic, I removed my sport wheels to prevent damage from the winter. I think I would have had less damage leaving them on!!! I can't say for sure but I wouldn't suspect a tire shop would do that to a wheel just by changing your wheels.
I know I found one area of road rash that I have no idea where it came from and I'm the only that drives the car too.

I got a bit of rash from running over a pothole; it was on rear driver's side rim, which would never come into contact with curb unless you drive in a very extraordinary fashion.

by looking at your pictures I don't think the tire shop did the damage.
I changed my tires before (17" wheels) at my friend's shop and he scratched the rim. if its the machine scratch, it looks different than the curb mark. |

If you are handy, and don't want to pay someone else... check this out.
I have not done this myself, but this is the best DIY repair I have found yet. If you have better, please post and PM me. Oh and yes you can hire someone to do this, and they probably do something like this, with maybe more tools. Hope this helped... It can be fixed, that is the msg I am sending!!! EspressoBoy |

You cannot trust any "shops" other than the dealership and even the dealerships fucks you sometimes. Those guys at the shops see your 1 series and they get all happy, probably drive it around the block, park in front of their girlfriend's house (Look what I got!). One series is relatively new, has had a lot of good reviews so people are eager to test it. I mean it's not a Ferrari, but the novelty of driving a new car doesn't get old. Always watch your mileage before and after your car leaves the shop.
Then again it could be yourself not noticing after parking close to a curb. Usually, you'll be quite sensitive though since the car is only 5 months old. |
