Why does BMW 128i M model come with 17 inch rims?
I understand the standard BMW 128i sport package comes with 18 inch rims whereas the sportier “M” package comes with 17 inch rims? Is there a reason why the sportier M package comes with the 17 inch vs the 18?

In my year, 2013, only the ZED Edition package 128i came from the factory with 18-inch wheels. The 128i came standard with 17-inch on all models. Sport Package was not available in 2013 but the M-sport still had 17s but in a different style. In years it was available, the Sport Package had its own 17-inch style 262 wheel.

The confusion arises from the fact that in certain years in Canada (and perhaps in other countries) the 128i Sport Package featured staggered 18-inch Style 263 wheels (see this post: https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379231). I don't know when they discontinued including the Style 263's (maybe after MY 2011?), but my Canadian 2012 128i M Sport was sold with 17-inch Style 207s.
So my guess is that in Canada, if you're looking at a 2011 or earlier 128i Sport, it will have 18-inch wheels, but when BMW introduced the M Sport package in 2012, the regular Sport package went from 18s down to 17s. Thank you. Yes, you got my point right on. Interesting why they lowered the size from the 18 to the 17 though for the later models. |

I'm guessing ride quality, unsprung weight, cost (should have probably lead with that ).

I tried for the longest time to get used to the 17s, because they're objectively better in almost every way. But in the end I weakened and bought some BBS 18s for summer and use the 17s for my winter set.
I can be shallow too lol. Last edited by parameter416; 03-15-2024 at 03:03 PM.. |

[Glances over at summer Style 264s, mutters something inaudible, looks embarrassed]
