Question Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Tread Life

Hi,

I put a set of OEM-sized Sottozero RFT on my 135i last Winter. They've been fine. This week I had a puncture in one of the rear tires on the highway. The run-flats worked great as I was able to get home and then to the dealership with 0psi safely.

The dealership patched the hole, but said it was pretty large and that the patch was probably not going to hold so I should replace the tire. I figured it made sense anyway, but the tread was worn and they recommended it was best (though not necessary) to replace both rears at the same time. I don't remember what they said the tread was at, but I came home and measured them myself:

The fronts are between 8 and 9/32nds inside to outside edge. The rears both go from 5 to 7/32nds. (This may explain why they haven't been gripping in the snow as well this season.)

I've probably put around 4000 miles on these tires. Granted I can't rotate them to extend the life, but is this wear normal? Was it silly to get the second rear tire? (I'll probably still keep the good tire just in case.)

Thanks.
