Adding an Amp and Subwoofer
Hey guys!
I'm in the middle of parting out my G35. I have a JL 500/1 amp and a JL 10w6, I really love this set up and dont want to sell it What will I need to do to make this work w/ the stock headunit? would I just need a LOC? The 135i I'm ordering will have HiFi system, iPod and smart phone integration I've done lots of research but can only find people switching the stock Subwoofers Should I just sell it and swap out the OEM Subwoofer for SWS 8xi? Thanks |

It's pretty much the same setup as everyone has been doing. The benefit to the SWS is the incognito style of added bass.
You'll just need a signal processor like the PDX-5, or JL Cleansweep |

he said he has hifi, not top hifi. so i believe that means no signal processor like cleansweep will be needed.
PDX-5 is an amp isn't it? not a signal processor, though it does have built in crossover. |

I figured you would need the LC6i to keep the head unit and use your amp, at least that is what i have picked up from reading. I have heard switching out the subs in the car is a great option. I currently have PrecisionPower bridged amp to 2x 12 JL, and PP amp to my Mb quarts up front in my current car...but it eats the trunk space! So i was planning on keeping the stock HU, adding the LC6i and hooking up an amp to the interior 8" subs and MBquarts up front. I just got the std radio.
I am still waiting for my car...so no real input yet

Here's a couple pics of my setup. I was in a similar situation as you being that I had a JL 500/1 & W6 10" in my old M3. Didn't want to just sell them for the Earthquake subs (I haven't heard the earthquakes, but I'm sure they're not as good as the JLs), so I ended up with this:

Very nice. I hadn't thought about how easy the battery location makes adding an amp. No long power leads is great! |

I wouldn't say it's a DIY for all unless you've done fiberglass work before. I wish I took pics along the way to show the process. I didn't want to take up all the room in the trunk or add excessive weight by building a full box. I wanted a clean setup so I decided to use my JL W6 10" in the corner and hide the JL 500/1 amp under the cover. Suprisingly the amp fits PERFECTLY. Looks like it was meant to be there. I used a LOC for the amp & ran the remote wire from the fuse box behind the glovebox.

The only thing I wish I had is an enclosure like the one you have. The current, ported enclosure takes up A LOT of room. Did you build this or have it done? If it's your own build, do you think you could do another for a reasonable price?

There is a remote line at pin 10 (thin black wire) in the OEM HiFi (non-Logic7) amp connector in the trunk. The remote wire in the Logic7 system is located in pin 13 in the back of the OEM HU or iDrive computer.

I made the enclosure myself. Never really thought about making more to sell. I do it more as a hobby. I guess it's really the best setup for in trunk since it doesn't take up too much room. I tried to tap the remote wire off the thin black wire off the factory amp, but I guess the JL amp I'm using required a stronger signal so I ended up tapping it from the fusebox behind the glovebox. I don't recall which fuse I ended up using, but I'll check it out tomorrow.

What would you guys be willing to pay for an enclosure like that? Like I said before, I do it more as a hobby, but if there's interests & it's worth the time I put into them, I don't mind making more. I probably wouldn't recommend anything bigger than a 10" do to size restrictions on the side. I have a JL W6 12" that I was thinking about using, but it definitely wouldn't have fit right. So.....what would you guys be willing to pay for an enclosure like that? I can either wrap in carpet like mine, or paint if you want a flashy look. Let me know what you guys think!
