I've installed several snap-ins on new vehicles. Works great, integrated perfectly with the iDrive system.
The downside is you have to take the phone out of the case which can be annoying.

If the E46 M3 had an iDrive, I'd stil be using the cord since it integrates into the iDrive. That's personal opinion though, my iPhone case is not easy to remove!

So yeah, gona buy an adapter from Dan, as I tried to go through the local dealership here in Italy... No parlez Italiano so it didnt help matters in getting the right one. I bought one for 100 Euro, roughly 145 dollars and it doesnt connect to the Ipod function of the radio as my 3GS adapter did... I bought a glorified charger?????? What gives? So now, I will take it back for a refund and am ordering one through Dan.
P.S. On a side note, my Iphone cable doesnt even connect the ipod function of my iPhone 4 either when connected via the USB connection... is there a bigger underlying problem here? This is the adapter part number those Italians sold me: 84.21-2 199 389-01 Last edited by Daniel135i; 09-01-2011 at 10:06 AM.. |

However I cannot access the new "apple environment" in the menu, so for that is seems you need the media adapter. |

Daniel.. something must be amiss... I also ordered BMW assist/Bluetooth and Ipod/USB and just picked up my car during my ED and connected my iphone4 and my daughter's iphone 4 via the USB cable and was able to control them both easily with the steering wheel controls and can see all the songs etc on the dash... I had the delivery agent pair my phone with Blue tooth, and then never actually used the bluetooth because we were travelling on long trips and it helped to charge the phone.
The car came with a little case under the arm-rest to put a phone... that's better suited for something like an ipod where one might leave it in the car all the time, and then perhaps use bluetooth for the phone |

I have a question for you guys....if I order the media snap in adapter and my car isn't equipped with the 6NF or 6FL option.....will it still charge and connect my iphone to the car's antenna, even though it is not integrated with the idrive system?
Thanks!

Your right, I had the wrong adapter, I had the "Charger" only instead of the "Music" adapter. BUT - When I turn my music to shuffle... it only plays through tghe songs alphabetically when in the cradle and synced to the BMW. When the iPhone is out and not synched it is truely random. Any thoughts on this, it is realy annoying. |

I brought the media adapter 84 21 2 218 390-02 to use with my iPhone 4s and I also get error messages saying no compatible plugins. I believe mine is version 2, hence 02 at the end of the part number, but Chris Buer has got 04, version 4, are there any differences and is it only 04 version that works in the 1M with option 6NR.

If it does for some reason, the only real benefit for you would be the phone would use the cars antenna boosted reception. |

Alright, just to clear some confusion and set some things straight. I'm pretty well-versed with the iDrive system and snap-in adapters.

There are other BMW Apps available besides BMW Connected. Have you tried Pandora or MOG? These are both great on-demand music services. Personally, I use Pandora all the time. The in-car integration is great. Quote:
The (media) cradle will do the following: 1. Enable video to be sent to the navigation screen. This is through one of two ways: a.) Apple's native user interface iPodOut which can be accessed through the PlugIn menu in either CD/Multimedia or BMW Connected contexts b.) Video playback from your iPhone / iPod. If you are parked and have the hand-break on, you can watch videos on your navigation screen. There are work-arounds to watch video while driving, but I would not recommend doing it. 2. Boost your antenna signal Quote:
To get video playback, you do the following: 1. Go to CD / Multimedia 2. Choose External Devices 3. You should see your device listed (iPhone name), and a button called PlugIn at the bottom of the screen OR 1. Go to BMW Connected menu 2. Go all the way to the bottom 3. PlugIn should be listed after BMW Apps I hope all this helps, guys. For any further BMW Apps or snap-in adapter questions - feel free to ask me.

einserM, maybe you can help me out a bit. What I am most interested in is getting Pandora through my iPhone 4S. I can run it on my phone and hook it up to the car using the standard white apple USB cable, but I have no ability to switch songs from the steering wheel or nav. And since the Pandora app goes into some sort of BMW screen, I can't change songs from the iPhone either! It would seem crazy to me that I would need the cradle just to have the ability to change songs. And from your description the other cradle features really wouldn't be that much of a benefit for me personally.
Also, can anyone confirm whether the iPhone 4S is actually compatible with the media cradle? EDIT: I think I may have answered my own question. I downloaded the BMW connected app and now when I play Pandora I get full control of switching songs, thumb up/down, etc.

Fizrider - that's odd. Pandora should just work without having to install BMW Connected. Perhaps you updated the Pandora app also? There was a recent version which did not work with iOS 5 for a while.

Actually, you're right, BMW connected doesn't need to be running. But I do need to start Pandora on the phone.

Do I have to have the snap in iPhone cradle/adaptor for 6NR to work? I can plug in iPhone via USB and get car data/mileage/ gas in tank to appear on the idrive screen. Shows I have 8.2 gallons w/ 2480 on the odo. The only super annoying thing is that when I plug in iPhone 4 that it disconnects my bluetooth??? I cannot get FB to work. Yelp doesnt work either.
