help! How to remove radiator fan on 2012 E55 135i?
Hi,
I am having hard time taking out the radiator fan to fix the oil filter gasket. I read http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1190224 It appears 2012 N55 is different from 2011. and read http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1282807 and watched the video at I took out the T25 torx, and unplugged the connector. I released the fan release clip. But there is this rubber mount that seems to be stuck. It is right next to the charge pipe. How do I release that? Thanks in advance. |

It should just slide straight up off of the mount. You might try lubricating it with something if it's binding for some reason. Removing the fan is a PITA though. Quite irritating...

It's attached to the charge pipe, lubricate it with WD40 or similar and wiggle it out. I usually push the charge pipe down and pull the fan up.
FWIW, I REALLY struggled getting the fan out the first time because of how snug everything was fitted. What whatever reason, after getting it out the first time, everything slips back into place much easier, and I can pull the fan in like 15 minutes.

Well, what a sad night. I failed miserably trying to get the radiator fan out.
I was able to get the rubber mount off after lubricating it. For those trying, if you look at the picture above you will see its a U shape clamp attached to the rubber mount, you can carefully put a larger flat head screw driver to push it out After getting the rubber mount off, it felt it was still attached to the lines below and I couldn't pull it out. there is minimal room I am disappointed in myself |

Thanks!
I say screw the fan and doing it now. I just got the front gasket one out. The intake manifold is out and the hidden screw is lose already, taking break short break now and going back at it as my muscles are cramping up |

Got it done.
Took me 7 hours because I was tired as hell and I started at 2AM. It should be a 4 hour job. Checked today and all looks good. I am happy that I didn't just give up after failing to take the radiator fan out. Its not necessary to have the fan out, but will make taking the front bolt out a bit easier |

Congrats! Cleaning up the oil scum on the front of the block is def the worst part of this job. Get ready to do it again in four years... ;-)
