I know how hard it is to change the turbos on the N54 once they go - I did it on my car. Hence my hesitation to get another N54 engine. The other negatives of the 128i are that they are typically spec'd with fewer options than the 135i. I see standard lights, no Xenons, no nav, etc.

Thanks for any insight.

Calling cars with the n52 a girls car is the same sort of mentality that causes 5'2" men to drive big pickup trucks with lift kits. I do not need to compensate for any aspect of my anatomy but even if I did, I learned the futility of that sort of logic a long time ago.

Usually that behavior is done by shallow insecure people who are worried about how they are perceived by others.

Well, thanks for all the feedback; in the end, my wife decided she likes the 335xi (who wouldn't with new turbos and stage 1+, intercooler, etc )... So no more 135i.

As I sold her Mini, it opens up the parking space for me for a track car, so I can relieve the R from track duties... hmmm, I sense an M3 in my future

Also, as I looked at it for a while; the 135i (in manual form 2011 + ) is too expensive for what it is, people are asking twice the blue book price. They are not THAT exclusive...
For 24k I can get a decent 911 from 2004-2005, manual, etc. Or an E92 M3... options open up when you talk 25k cash.

Thanks all.

However in doing my research I have found that there are many reports of bearing failure within the n55 community.

Without any doubt in my mind the n52 is many times more reliable than an N54/5. But that is because the n52 is under far less stress and uses far less technology than an N54/5.

But you have to pay to play!!! If big HP is your need then go N55. If mega HP is your need then go N54 and build it. If adequate is enough...and a sweet NA torque curve and the ability to actually run it through the gears and not going a billion miles an hour.

Get an N52

More bearing fun....

https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1537202
I've seen a few reports of Rod Bearing failures, my theory is they followed the BMW recommended 15K mile Oil Change Interval. A ran this theory by a guy that has his own shop now but used to be a master tech for BMW and still talks to the techs at the local shop. He's saying that this particular dealer he used to work at has seen it a handful of time, all being exclusively dealer serviced cars. But he's never had an N55 in his shop with the same issue.

I have been doing 7.5-8k max OCI since I got the car with 25K miles, and recently switched to 5K mile OCI when I got to 90K miles. Had a shop look at my bearing at 85K miles when I did my oil pan gasket, nothing abnormal, had my oil tested when I got to 100k miles, no signs of wear. now at 105K miles. I migghhhtt have them replaced anyways at 120-140K miles but we'll see.

It is perfect in fact. It just dances around the turns, you won't believe how it shrinks around you at speed.

But I would like to keep it just for that special track day on dry ... and have a beater for everyday track drifting and car control clinic, etc.
Mine is one of the 12 R's made in this color scheme and very low mileage, and I want to keep it like this for a while

I'm waiting on the Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo. 250HP/310 Ft#s Torque.

The car is small and likely will be nimble. With its expected weight, it should be a real rocket!

Well, in the end, I bought an E92 M3 manual... can hardly wait to bring it home. I decided I don't want any more blow dryers in my family and associated pain ... V8 muscle.

I think that car is keeping its twist beam rear axle

It does, but tests have shown it to be every bit as good as IRS.

Very good choice. Another iconic "end of an era" car.

Interlagos Blue or LeMans Blue? Can't tell for sure. Both are beautiful. My old 135i was LMB.
