sunroof problem

strange squiggly symbol on center display, i looked up symbols in owners manual. said "sunroof pinch protection". Sunroof started malfunctioning, not opening and not closing completely. Will call dealer tomorrow for appointment. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes I also had this problem. I was driving from Virginia to PA and same squiggly line and stuff. Took it to BMW and the fixed it. However, the techs told me next time if it happens just to hold the sunroof button foward (towards the windsheild) for about 15secs to reprogram the switch. They said that every once in awhile the computer system messes up and needs to reset.

The correct way to initialize the sunroof is to hold the tilt button until it performs a complete tilt-open-shut cycle.

This is the way to do it, I had the same problem on my car.

Save yourself a trip to the dealer, hold the tilt button (press straight up on the sunroof button) until the sunroof completes its reprogramming cycle, which should take 30-60 seconds.

sunroof problem

well I am afraid to say the suggested procedures did not work. Problem being the sunroof will not complete a cycle, it only opens from the back and attempts to slide backwards but fails.
Responses much appreciated and I will post whatever the dealer fix is.

Well, just returned from the dealer. Problem turned out to be that the sunroof module had lost initialization. Took about 3 hrs. In the process the DTC module turned on a light (code). This module was reprogrammed too.
Believe me I was really worried about reprogramming the main computer and would have the problem I have read about on the N54 website. However no worry, it still runs very, very well.

After my sunroof would not tilt back closed last night, I started to worry. Was given the same symbol as others describe.

This morning, I found this thread, and can confirm the procedure described above, fixed my issue. =)

Thank you for the help, and the relief. I was preparing myself for an extensive dealer repair bill.

Just had this happen to me.

Using the comfort access on the door handle to close the windows/sunroof tilt, and the sunroof stayed open. I looked inside and had this on the screen:

Held the button for 15 seconds but wasnt working, I tried with the full ignition switched on and I think it was the pushing up and it seemed to reset, and check system says everything ok now.

Saved me a trip to the dealer, thanks!

So my sunroof just stopped working, i usually leave it tilted after i park my car inside the apartment complex, and today after detailing the inside i went to open it and it would open but, it would stop 2 inches before it closed completely so i go ahead and tried the initialization process and it did everything and its motions but it wouldn't open all the way, so i go to try it again and the car stays with the sunroof tilted and now i cant open it or close it. Even after trying to initialize it again it wont do anything, its simply stuck, no code or anything has came up?

My girls 135i randomly started leaving the rear portion of the moonroof lower than front. I would need to tilt up and then close by pressing it back couple times. Did this procedure and it took care of it. Always good searching and finding an old thread that provides an answer.
