Europe gets a 2.5l engine with 218bhp in the 325i. They also don't have this 'sport' and 'premium' package thing - if you want sports seats on their own, you can have them, at least in the UK.

single tip on the Euro version is only for the 4-bangers. The 6 cylinder models have dual tips.

"USA doesnt have air/oil heat exchanger"

Guess we don't need it in the U.S. since we have no autobahns.

US models are much less expensive and better equipped than in Europe. US customers also have the option of option packages which are not (in the UK at least) available here - other than Sport models.

Having looked through the US spec, the following items are standard on US 325i's but not in the UK - Moonroof (or sunroof as we call it), upgraded Hi-Fi, Bluetooth prewiring, Rain sensor, Walnut wood trim and "leatherette upholstery" (although in the case of the last option I'm glad we have standard cloth!). As for the US 330i it adds (over the UK version) Adaptive Xenon headlights, Electric seats and Logic 7 surround sound - in addition to the 325i additions.

There are a few things that UK models get over US - slightly better alloys, full alarm system, clear indicators and chrome grill (6 cylinder models).

I also find it fascinating how tastes differ in both continents. For example, nobody in the UK would touch a White or Red non-metallic. The £535 'saving' over metallic costs you £1000 or more at resale (if you can sell it). White cars in the UK are for weddings or police cars and are seen as looking cheap and nasty! As for Leatherette upholstery, this last made an appearance in the UK in about 1970. We prefer cloth or full (proper) leather.

I agree with you on the red/white colours here in Europe. But have you seen sensatec (leatherette)in a E90 in real life?

I have it (black) and it looks great in combination with the sportsseats much better than cloth imho(and only 184 euros, resale 500 more definitely)

To be fair I haven't seen it in an E90 but I did see it in an X3 and thought it felt horrible and was obviously synthetic.

I bought a white car not because I couldnt afford a metalic color, just because that is the color that I personally like the most on the car... I guess you are right about varying tastes from continent to continet cuz if I was looking to save money I wouldnt have chose the Bimmer... Oh well to each his own

The 330s have the chrome grille here, I guess since we have no four cylinder models this is how they differentiate...
Also, the reason the cars are cheaper is because we don't have VAT added into the price...

You're right that 17.5% VAT doesn't help, but it's interesting that prices are similar in US$ as they are here in UK£ and the exchange rate is more than 17.5% different!!

Allowing for exchange rates and standard equipment, I still reckon that US customers get the car for around 30% less.

When I last visted the US (2003) I couldn't believe how cheap the cars were. I usually get a car for around £30k which would be over $50k US. Believe me, £30k here gets you a hell of a lot less than $50k does there!!

If I moved to the US I'd get an X5 for 3 series money and enjoy the cheap fuel (it's chasing $8 a gallon here).
