I bought the two small size 135i models. 1:87 (small) and 1:43 (medium) sized models.
Damn you!

I too got one of the Sedona Red 1/43 1'er's and was going to send it to you as part of your care package, but now I'll have to think of something else!

Thanks for the great write up. I wish I could have taken the Leipzig tour while on my Euro Delivery trip. The Munich factory tour was still impressive. How were you able to tell the difference between the Euro and US spec cars?

The ORANGE in the corners of the headlight give the US spec models away. I am a fan of the orange! The only other way would be to look a the speedo for MPH.

Right, I should have thought of the reflectors. I'd love to have the Euro spec headlights. Maybe we could swap, but then our cars would be without headlights briefly while they were in transit.

Alpine white... the same as almost every other 1er.

My car finished production on the 26th though so a few days too late. Now I'm just waiting for the damn thing to find a boat to the left coast. If the shipping schedules I was combing over are accurate, there's nothing leaving Bremerhaven with a Hueneme destination until the 19th of June!

There are two holes to center the BMW roundel. There is no way they can put them on crooked! Durring the build process they put a GPS-like device(in its place on the hood) that can track the car's progress. I think they said it takes about 38 hours to build a car start to finish.

a BMW deserves its emblem and if passes all the quality tests, that's what I remember watching in a video somewhere.

Great writeup. Have to do this.

Reason : 1:87 Scale are almost definitely made by a German Miniature Model company called HERPA.

I used to get loads of their tiny BMWs when I was a kid. Still have them all.

Tiny but.. Awesome detail

They also put a piece of paper on the 3ers windshield in the Welt factory stating it's US spec, not sure if they do that in Leipzig.

thanks for sharing

My dad and I made the trek to Leipzig during my July 2008 European Delivery. It is absolutely an amazing facility and cool to bring our cars home for a day! -Jeff

You know... you can ship your car over here and drive on your USA state tags for up to six months! You just have to get EU insurance and post a small bond and export your car with in that six month time frame.

I have seen many people do this(non military). Of course.... Autobahn + $7 a gallon for gas = $$$$

Thanks for sharing. I was born in Leipzig in 59 and have been back only once since the wall went down. Nice to know that the car in my garage was built in my birth city.
