Interesting question regarding dragging.

I came from an automatic B5 S4. So needless to say there was no fancy burnout before i hit the drag strip. It was all very...uhh...boring? i guess? Idunno but the awd and the high stall torque converter let me hit some fairly sick 1.6 60 foots. Anyway, I was thinking about the OEM 135 tires for the sport package and was wondering if there is even a purpose to heating them up before a drag strip pass. From my understanding most road purpose tires LOSE traction under extreme heat so wouldn't the idea to do a fancy smokey burnout be sorta... counterproductive? any thoughts on this? This is actually my first rwd car so i'd like to be learned on these topics. Also didn't we(america) not get the e-diff in our 1 series? so would we be burning out on side of the car?

I have always been told to drive around the water when racing on street tires.
The videos I have seen show 135's leaving 2 blackmarks.

Heating up street tires is pretty much pointless...BUT. You do want them nice and clean, so I at least roll them over a couple of times before I stage.

As mentioned above, you should comlpetely avoid the water. If you drive through it with street tires, the front tires pick up the water. When you stage it will run out of the tread and leave two wet spots for your rear tires to break traction on.

Even a car with drag radials out back and street tires in the front should drive around the water and then back into it to keep the front tires dry.

There is a reason to do this...

To destroy the stupid run flats, so you have one more reason to buy real tires.

It doesn't hurt to clean em off, but as Jeremy said, you want to back into it. Just a quick little spin also, no need to get em hot.

There is truth in this post. Ignore my previous advice, and commit John Force on those bastards! Once they're gone and you have real tires, revert back to previous advice.
