Unhappy Blue smoke at 4000 rpm- after changing VCG

I am a new owner of a used 2012 128i convertible. Ran smooth and was clean. Had a BMW dealership verify the car to id all the issues. Inspection was good except for weeping gaskets VCG and OPG.
It has 100,000 miles and needed to have the valve cover and oil pan gaskets replaced. Specialist changed them as well as an oil change. In the days following the garage repairs, idle was rough and I noticed a large puff of blue smoke when shifting in 3rd at 4000 rpm during a long ride. Below 4000 rpm there was no smoke. No smoke of start up. Puff of blue smoke can be reproduced with the same conditions. Engine light has come on (probably O2 sensor?)
What could have caused this after the repairs?? Can it be just a coincidence? Please help!

This happened to me after changing to an off brand valve cover. I discovered the built in PCv system had failed after 30min of driving. Causing clouds of smoke under throttle. Switching to an oem cover fixed it. Good luck
