Increased Turbo-Lag with new software confirmed!
Took my car in today due to clicking sound coming from the rotors. I asked the service adviser about how I've been experiencing more turbo-lag since the software update and he confirmed to me that the software indeed set the car to have more lag.
Solution: JB3 with lag fix

Thats a bunch of BS... Is that to help save the pump?

I assume so.
I have the new pump and the new software. The lag is minimal or non if you keep the revs up(same thing you do with cars with lager single turbos and smaller engines like the STI or EVO) but if you go from a cruise to full throttle there is just under a second of lag. Compared to the original set-up its very very noticeable.

i've noticed the turbo lag with the new software, as well. personally, i kinda like it. power comes on more dramatically and you really feel the torque when the turbo's spool up. i'm also running several mods including a procede, but i've grown to like the "lag" that's included with the new software

yeah its certainly doesn't seem to rob you of much performance if at all. Just wanted to inform everyone that it does in fact cause more lag. whether your picky or not about it. I don't mind it much I've gotten use to it and there are always ways to keep the spool up if you need to. It's only noticeable when you let it happen.

What does a Service Advisor really know though? If we went off everything service advisors told us we'd be in some deep doo doo by now.

Well with the sensitivity of the whole recall situation. He had to be really stupid to say it or it's truly a fact. He could get in a bit of a mess if it weren't true. In fact he probably could get in trouble for telling me

i for one am NOT a fan of the lag....reminds me of my old Speed3, and STI' that i have driven...the 135i with twin turbo's was a BIG selling point because it did away with lag....luckily my JB3 Map5 clears most of the issues...We are supposed to getwhat we paid for, and the lag was not an option!!

The only way I can believe any changes would be by doing testing and hard data, such as dyno testing.
The performance of my car did not feel any different, though I did notice better gas mileage, and the pump(s) actuating when unlocking the doors. And long HPFP cranks were gone.

Thanks. I've always had the habit of turning my key to the acc position, waiting a second, then starting the car. But push start doesnt have that option. They should prime it when you put the fob in, instead of unlocking the doors. Oh well.

I bought my car used last month, and since I've had it, I can hear the pump working as soon as I unlock the doors. I thought this was standard for all n54 engines. Is it safe to say I have the latest software? The car only has around 7k miles and no issues so far (knock on wood)

I don't have comfort access on my car and it actuates the pump on unlock. I have a 2011 so maybe all new cars already come preprogrammed that way.

yep, i have an 3/08 build with the original software, and the fuel pump has always hummed/primed when the doors are unlocked. does comfort access have something to do with that?

1. word A versatile declaration, originating (more or less) in hip-hop culture. "Word" has no single meaning, but is used to convey a casual sense of affirmation, acknowledgement, agreement, or to indicate that something has impressed you favorably. Its usage among young blacks has been parodied ad nauseam among clueless suburban whites. "Come on, man, we're going to the store." "Word." |
