Bought my 08' Jan 2019 @ 102000km. Currently @ 148700km. I have fixed the usual valve cover/OFHG/water pump issues. The only other non-service items have been ignition coils, bonnet release cable, battery, vacuum lines, pcv valve and the 3rd brake light. Coolant, steering and brake fluid have all been replaced. Engine oil, filter and air filter are replaced every 5000km.
As far as I know the fuel pumps and turbos are original so I'm doing alright there, touch wood. Charge pipe and diverter valves & pipes have been swapped with aftermarket aluninium and silicon parts to rid the engine of some plastic. I have also recently replaced the shock absorbers & struts as well.
Whoops, I forgot about the recent passenger side door lock actuator failure

I purchased my my 2010 128i MT 5-ish years ago, at 120k miles. Mine has very few options on it, probably a good thing for reliability. The previous owner gave me a long list of things the BMW dealer had repaired, not my problem. Now at 175k miles. I did maintenance including brakes, tires, change all fluids, rustproofing, but that doesn't count. Replaced the struts and shocks with Koni but at this mileage that's normal. Repairs have been very few:
- belt tensioners and idlers and power steering pump, chasing a whine.
- repairs to front brake dust shields, rivets rusted out and shields were dragging on the wheels.
- replaced O2 sensor
- Now chasing some ABS sensor or electrical system issues, at 175k miles I'm not too upset about this.
- needs drivers seat repair.
- has some new oil leaks, one on top of engine at right and one at oil pan sensor gasket.

bought my car on 9/9/18 (i wont forget that date any time soon... 9+9=18) with 57k on it, now it has 113k and **knocks on wood** it has been relatively trouble free... hpfp was done earlier this year and i only knew it was going bad because i happened to notice once that the rail pressure matched the lpfp pressure, but the car was still driving fine!! i haven't had any lights or anything weird happen. my footwell module filled up with water after tropical storm weather but i just dried it out and its still fine...!!! lucky me

2008 128i, bought with 50k and got rid of it back in October last year with 217k.

Engine and trans still going like the day got it, everything else however was showing age. Notorious christmas tree dash panel of lights, gaskets getting tired, headliner falling down, exterior went from an 8/10 to about a 4/10 from the abuse of daily driving. Totally would have gotten another, but switched to a truck for a daily this time.

I like reading this! I bought a 93,000 mile ‘08 135i 6MT Vert in August and I want to drive it for at least another 75,000 miles. I’ll be refreshing several items in the next few months, adding the BMW PPK version 2, and some suspension improvements, but I largely plan on keeping it stock.

I’ll be diy replacing my rattling turbos next month with fresh Mitsubishi units.

08 AW/CR 135i 6 SPD:

Purchased: 2011 w/ 30K
FBO, Stage 2+: 2011 w/ 35K
Currently: 99,650

Nothing but usual maintenance really (all major gaskets, coils, plugs, injectors, etc.)

Replaced the HPFP, Water Pump once each and replaced the steering rack and both door actuators

Driven hard most of its life and still runs like new, no leaks, squeaks, rattles or issues

Considering selling but not sure if I'll find something this fun again

2008 128i, manual trans with 239,683 miles on it with original clutch! I've owned it since 43,000 miles. Items that have left me stranded...Water Pump at about 140K and Starter at about 180K. Other than that, the usual stuff...all 3 oil leak prone gaskets replaced. Fuel pump and regulator due to aged cracking plastic causing fuel smell at fillups. Crank Position Sensor, cause I was there when starter replaced. Lots of preventative maintenance and upgrades along the way, wheels, suspension and intake. 4 track days and my daily until recently and still runs strong. Been the best car I've owned!!

Starter is the only thing that's left me stranded in 12 years. Died in a car wash

I got lucky on the pump with some pre-emptive codes. Was able to replace proactively.

I'm not putting on the same mileage anymore post-pandemic, but I'm up to about 209,000 miles. Baby doesn't pull the same, but she still handles great with the +1 wheels and the PS2s. Don't know what I'll ever replace her with. M2 would seem obvious, but not until BMW learns how to do electronic steering.

It's a very diagonal upgrade for sure. Owning an f32 the steering is not super great, but as a modern sporty coupe, I love it.

Driving the gf's e82, and even though it's about 100 horsepower down, it's much more nimble and fun.

M2 is superior in almost every way, but the soul feels almost gone without that steering. If possible, see if anyone offers a long term rental or if you have a member near by you. The tech is good, the interiors are great feeling and mods are just as plentiful.

To be honest I think the n55 "og" m2 is a perfectly capable car without the "m" premium of the s55. But if you want to track or seriously drive the car more, s55 seems the way to go in the comps and cs

My 74k miles 128i still feels brand new. But at this mileage the car is just broken in compared to what I am seeing here!

2009 135i w/stage 2 BMW performance power kit: 202,000 miles

My 2009 135i convertible (6M, M-Sport, BMW Performance Power Kit, stage 2) that I bought in 2014 with 60k miles on it and have used as my DD until this past March, has 202k miles on it. I still love it, and until I got my new Porsche 718 Cayman in March I thought it was the best handling, best shifting car ever. (Now after a few months with the Porsche, the shift throws feel really long in the BMW, and it positively crashes over imperfections in the pavement. This despite most of the suspension components having been replaced last summer, and taller sidewalls than on the Cayman --> 225/40-18 front/255/35-18 rear on the 1 vs. 235/35-20 front/265/35-20 rear on the P-Car, but I digress...) [EDIT: I guess technically the Porsche's rear sidewalls are slightly taller, since 35% of 265mm is marginally larger than 35% of 255mm.]

Only been left on the side of the road twice, water pump failure and flat rear tire. The plastic charge pipe blew apart at 80k miles, replaced with an aluminum BMS one, but that didn't leave me stranded. Original clutch lasted 168,000 miles. The rear wastegate can no longer be adjusted to fix the rattle, because I let it go too long between adjustments and neither heat nor repeated applications of penetrating oil will free up the nut now. Thankfully it has not led to boost codes.

Yes, there's been fairly frequent maintenance required, probably more than most cars (the damned oil pan gasket took me 18 hours, and basically needed to be done by fingertip feel), but after 14 years and over 200,000 miles the car still looks stunning and feels and sounds great! For a car/engine combo this aggressive and satisfying, that's a small price to pay.

Overall, I'd say the engine and exhaust sounds are better than my Cayman overall. The Cayman has a more aggressive exhaust sound (with burbles, pops, and backfires) in sport mode, but in general day-to-day driving the N54 with stock exhaust sounds better more of the time.

If I had a third garage bay, I'd keep it; I know I'm going to be sad to see it go.
