Iphone snap-in. which one?
I want to order the Iphone snap-in for my 1M. But which one fits and works with BMW apps to get the full functionality? Music or Media?
I read the Media version only works with the "combox" option. But I cannot find this option on any car (1 series, 5 series, 7 series). Thanks |

@ Artemis: thanks for the links, but I check the BMW site and read all this before. Nowhere is however clearly written which version of the snap-in adapter is needed. (media or music)

I've got BMW Apps and use an iPhone 4, and was looking into the cradle mounts yesterday. I decided to pass for two reasons. First, the cradle won't fit your phone if you keep it in a case, which is virtually everyone I know. I'm not going to take my phone out of the case to put it in the cradle everytime I get in my car. Second issue is that it's phone-specific, and the new iPhone 5 is rumored to be here in Oct. I always tell myself I don't need the new iPhone, and then end up with it two days after it comes out. The only advantage I've been able to determine with the cradle (vs. just plugging into the USB port) is that it's supposed to work with the car antenna to give better reception. Reception isn't an issue for me, so I'm going to pass on the cradle. Really the only thing I want to plug my phone into the USB for is internet radio. I can't stand Facebook and Twitter. I only got BMW Apps because maybe they'll add some updates down the road that might be useful, like Google.

I do not use a case and the USB cable hanging annoys me. an additional advantage of the snap-in is that you have the apple interface for you music. This doesn't work with USB. (facebook and twitter I do not care as well) |

I'm still not really sure what the difference between the standard USB port and the iPhone specific cradle is, aside from it boosting your antenna? Anyone know?

My take is that the car has a 12gb HDD and I plan to transfer a chunk of my music directly to it via USB or leave an old iPod in the thing. My car has Bluetooth so I'm just going to leave my phone (and my starter fob) in my backpack because I won't be needing to lay my hands on either one.

"Do I need a snap-in adapter to operate my mobile device in the vehicle?
For optimum operation of the mobile device in the vehicle, the BMW Group recommends the use of a snap-in adapter to ensure that the mobile device is secured safely, that it is charged and connected with the external aerial. You will find information on the current range of snap-in adapters at www.bmw.com/bluetooth." (http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...tooth/faq.html) |

Thank you Marcel. That is the question I wanted answered, but hadn't got around to asking. I am using a USB cable to connect, but will get the snap in if it offers more of the iPhone UI for music navigation.

Anyway, I can get the adapter here as well and there are good offers. The shipping cost and the customs make it too expensive to order from the US. |

I have the media adapter. The iPod interface accessed via the "Plug-in" menu item doesn't give you extra functionality but it does look nice.
Twitter, FB and web radio interface is slick. Video replay from iPhone on iDrive screen also works well. |

How did you get video replay from the iphone onto Idrive? Did you use the snap in adapter or just the normal ipod cable? What screen were you in?

See my post that you've quoted ;-) Media cradle. You'll see a little film strip icon in the top screen once you've selected the iPhone.

I would use neither cable nor the cradle. The bluetooth connectivity is great for telephony, contacts and now music streaming, though the album art is not going to show. Cables are a mess and the cradle is impractical as a daily routine to pop in and out when you just want to GO.

Yes. You would have to plug in to access BMW Apps for maximum distraction from driving.
