Almost lost another diff (well, I pretty much did)
I was driving to go flying, and then it started whining. Odd. Kept driving, and noise kept getting worse and worse. Greaaaat. Parked in the parking lot, two wheels up a curb, and the diff cover was dripping in gear oil, and a puddle was quickly forming underneath the car. After flying all over creation until 1am, and getting a ride home with my flight instructor, I came back in the morning with tools, and found every single bolt that normally holds the cover on, finger-tight. Dammit! Tightened those up and filled it with fluid, and the noise was still there. Another diff, with wonderfully quiet bearings, now ruined by noisy gears (bearings are still good ). Ordered a 3.23 open diff, and I'll be driving on that until I figure out what to do with the LSD. I have to drive 1,200 miles to school next week, and I need something that will just work (and save me a few bucks on gas). The AKG motor mounts are phenomenal, though. It makes all the right noises, and the drive train just feels so much more responsive and alive. It's great! The rattles and the noise at idle is borderline unbearable, but once I set off, all is well in the world...

It's back together now but I think I may have something wrong.
Hoping it's just a low fluid issues though I'm gonna have to pull and redo this. Dammit. It's throwing a 4F97 trans code which all signs point to being the block. It's brand new and the same part number I pulled out. But found this snazzy guy, http://sfcmotorsports.com/product/6h...apter-tma-002/ Last edited by iminhell1; 08-11-2019 at 10:03 PM.. |

Alternate wheels and tires
I posted in the wheel and tire fitment forum.
Pics are pretty good but they posted upside down! Tried to fix the pictures but could not do it. Sorry. It seems that 225 x 45 x 17 and 255 x 40x 17 will work on a 1er. I bought "used" Michelin PS A/S3+ and Style 286 rims for a great price. Wanted an alternate to my 18" ers which are the dreaded RFT's. This car does not get raced nor driven hard. Have a look if you're interested. Jim |

It has an overall fuller sound, a tad bit deeper as well. Butt dyno also says the throttle response is better, who knows about that though. |

Some new shoes for the front
Also have a set of Meyle HD tie rod assemblies and a set of fresh boots on the way from FCP. At ~90K miles it's time to freshen up the steering bits

Just picked it up from the beauty salon! 2 stage paint correction, Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra ceramic coating and fabric treatment on the top. Looks beautiful!

The reds are a great daily driver pad- I've got 2+ years and ~23K miles on mine and they're still great (and my wheels are clean...)
If you do start seeing some track time, drop a few pesos on a set of dedicated track pads to swap in and you'll be all the happier...

Went to install my Xtrons lower head unit last night. Got everything plugged in, unit powers on, steering wheel controls work, NO SOUND. There's also a crazy sounding beeping when first starting the car up. A series of beeps over a few seconds that happens 3-4 times after starting the car. Not sure what the hell happened to the sound or why it's yelling at me. Also when I tried reconnecting all the cables I probably tripped the radio fuse again. I really shouldn't be trusted to touch car electronics, I'm fuck awful with them
Also, might already be sick of the green lol been thinking of changing it in the next few months. Who likes red? |

Just cheap ebay ones, but they work great. Still a good cut-off, and definitely brighter, 5K so not too blue.

Installed the Earthquake sws8 subs.
I'm on the Alpine system so the subs are driven by the Alpine amp, 50x2 IIRC. So they are underpowered by a fair margin. Still they work fine. While the sound is better, bass extension, I still hate the audio in these cars. |
