what are the early models rated to ? couldn't be much less surely, isnt overboost on the stock tune over 500nm?

unless it was a manufacturing issue on early models.....

There was a large amount of these gearboxes failing and mine being one of the first ones as I brought my car with 8k on it.

The original was rated to 450nm or very close to that the current m4 puts out 550 so the new part number would be rated well over that

There has been a number of revisions of this box now so hopefully she holds

I was aiming to get a sequential box but none adapt to the stock shifter and most are already on the limit of what my car produces.

Also the cost factor is at minimum 3x higher than a stock current box that's rated higher than my last one.

The new one will hold just have to slow down with the gear changes, its not
like the dogbox I'm use to.

So at least I found out why my gearbox shit itself the bearing collapsed on the 2nd gear shaft

New gearbox is on its way anyway, like the say if you want to play be ready to pay.

But its got me scratching my head where it came from ???

As its on core exchange basis I'm not going to take it apart

Car was still drivable but second was goneski

I will never know exactly what happened as the gearboxes are on an exchange program

Apparently the new one is also fitted to the new F82 but the F82 Part No. has been
superseded by even a newer one

Well at least the car is getting fixed and the gearbox should be here in 2 to 3 weeks.

Jeez thats the first Ive heard of a MT letting go!

Bet you're disappointed on such a low mileage car also

May I ask who did you source the new tranny through?

Being an exclusive model, I would be more inclined to get your gearbox rebuilt so it remains a numbers matching vehicle.

Ahh right I had assumed each tranny had DOM and serial numbers... (someone would know something is up if you had a 2012 gearbox on a 2011 1M)

Nice power for the track. Rotaries and 2JZ are good for the 1/4. Time you took it somewhere with corners

That's what ive been setting up for this last few months for some light track work

No more drag strip

Little explanation why I go to the dragstrip, its for tuning purposes.

Where else can you go to test your car for 60 bucks and do over 200km and get some great logs
and get some info like

Temps
Fuel Pressure
Timing
Boost
WGC

Just to name a few very important things to see how the car copes and then take it to the track

Dynos are good for baseline runs and for bragging rites

But Road logs are very different and your tune will change on the road

I've seen many perfect runs on a dyno and the same tune on the road was utter rubbish and the car
would misbehave badly, throw error codes and worst case scenario component failure.

So drags are great for tuning purposes and if you make a few good time passes its a bonus.

Copied from http://www.bimmerfile.com/2016/02/22...ng-the-bmw-m2/

The standard manual gearbox is an adapted K-transmission, which is found in several BMW “Series” production vehicles and the 1M and M3 and M4. The following components were already adapted in the F80/F82 and F83:
◾Weight reduction compared with predecessor gearbox
◾Smaller size and thus lower weight
◾Improvement of the shifting comfort thanks to use of new type of carbon friction lining at the synchronization units
◾Reduction of noise level
◾Increased efficiency due to dry sump lubrication (“churning” in the oil is prevented, with specifically designed oil ducts). This made it possible to reduce heat generation to such an extent that external cooling is no longer required

So from the 1m to the current m4 the gearbox is the same

Yes its the same but it isn't

The new revision of the box is the strongest

The box from 2010-2012 n55 and 2016 is the same but the internals are slightly changed

So if you buy a second hand box your most probably buying the same weak box these cars came out with prior to 2015

They upgraded the synchros in the later boxes as they where having a major problem

especially the 2 series I've read that some cars being on their third box

.
