Another first time BMW owner here, 135i ordered
Hello 1ers!
I ordered my 135i today after months of research and lurking. Not only is it my first BMW but it's my first real sports car. I kept it pure and simple: Jet Black Black Leather Alpine White Trim 6MT M Package Heated Seats I've been obsessed with E46 M3s for the past 5 years or so but when it finally came time to buy one, I ended up falling for the 135i I'm coming from an Audi A3 so it is quite a change. I bought the A3 thinking it would be a good compromise between performance and practicality. Now three years down the road I'm finding myself hungering for more performance and lacking a need for a hatchback. A two liter turbo and FWD just doesn't cut it. Anyways, I'm glad to finally join the forum and look forward getting to know the community. I saw a couple people here in the tri-state area so hopefully we can meet up some time. By the way, how do you all keep from going crazy while waiting? I don't even have my production number yet and I'm already bouncing off the walls excited. |

August is vacation month in the German Motor Industry. You should ask your CA if you car is going to be built before that begins. If so you should have your car in as little as six-seven weeks.

I ordered mine back on June 22... and I got a build date of week 35. Week 35 is the last week of August / first week of September, as the factories are opening back up. I was REALLY hoping to beat the August shutdown, too!
So, my guess is yours will be built in September, unless a slot opens up sooner and your CA is able to grab it. Still hoping I have a chance of that happening. If not, then... |

jpd: not military, but able to purchase through military sales... does that tend to push the build date back?

Thanks for the heads up! I was unaware they shut down. I'm calling first thing tomorrow to see if it is possible to have it squeezed in.

Well I was told on 7/15 that they were trying to take a dealers build so it comes sooner. I'm guessing that means a customer's order gets priority over a dealer ordering one for inventory? I haven't heard back yet but I'm hoping for some good news soon.

I called today to discuss doing the Performance Center Delivery program and at the same time asked if there is any update on the car. The CA wasn't sure so he went on his computer to check... turns out my car is already in production and has a VIN. I'm beyond excited now

Dude, that is awesome!
I talked to my CA and it all has to do with allocations, etc. I'm guessing your dealer had an upcoming allocation that wasn't filled (or someone else cancelled), and you were able to grab it. You ordered three weeks after me, are now in production (done, at this point, I'm sure), and I'm still five weeks away from production... True, I don't have to wait for it to be shipped across the ocean... but I'm jealous! Due to travel for work, I'm not sure I'll even get mine until the end of September at this point. Ugh. |

Don't be too jealous. My CA told me the soonest possible date I'll get my car is Oct. 7th. That would make it a little over seven and a half weeks from the order date, assuming no delays.
By the way, where do you find the production codes? I went on the BMW website for tracking and called the 1-800 number, neither gave me a code. Edit: Whoops, I was looking at Sept. 7th, October would be around 12 weeks Something doesn't add up here. My CA confirmed it is in production, but the completion date is set for 8/17. Wouldn't that be in the middle of the August shutdown? I also can't see why it would be in production for over three weeks? Last edited by Groundzero; 07-24-2011 at 05:54 PM.. |

The Leipzig factory is shutdown from 7/23 (this past Saturday) until 8/6, as far as I understand...
Not sure why yours wouldn't be completed until 8/17 though, if it was already "in production." My understanding is that actual production only takes a day or two of actual building. |

Northeast POE are only 2-3weeks from Bremerhaven which means a cargo vessel would arrive in Boston or New York a couple of weeks after summer shutdown. The words in production has multiple meanings. First off the parts are ordered and gathered for just in time production followed by your actual build. Your vehicle may be in the first phase.

Congrats on the car! Waiting is the worst part
If you check the local sections of the forums, there's one for the tri-state + PA area. You can find info on stuff that's going on in the area there. Also, if you have a facebook, search "Tri-State 1Addicts" and join for more information on events and stuff like that. Any modding plans for the car? Or do you plan to keep it as is?

I'll probably stick to minor stuff while I'm leasing it. Wheels, FMIC, downpipe, maybe a flash tune? If I end up buying the car though I want to go all out with coilovers, camber plates, and a LSD. I'm dying to hear what a Vishnu catted downpipe sounds like with the BMW Performance Exhaust so that might come first

Car arrived in NY yesterday and is now in the "Finishing Touches" stage. It's only going from NY to CT so I'm hoping to get it sometime next week.
