Here we go... DIY Wrap Install, and some extras incoming
I've been wanting to do this for a looooong time. After reaching out about options for protecting my CF hood, a friend reached out to me about some extra 3M in gloss white he had laying around.
So began the planning... This is what I've settled on, it's going to be a hell of a process and I'm going to DIY the whole thing:
I already have all the materials, funny thing is I've been sitting on the anthracite wheel kit and the lime green caliper kit for years, just didn't think it would look good on my paint color. Wrap: Product I've received is 3M's 1080 Gloss White, if I was getting it myself I think I'd go Avery since I've heard it's much easier to install but I can't complain. I'm going to try to do this right, that means removing every bit of trim from the car, door handles, mirrors, lights, roof shark, etc. and getting the vinyl tucked in perfectly. Hoping for 3+ years of life out of this job! Calipers: The calipers are going to be done using this kit I got from Vvivid. No idea how it's going to come out but thankfully it's 100% reversible just like any vinyl kit. Wheels: First will be done with the DYC kit linked in the list above, and if I like it enough I might have them powdercoated and cleared with the same colors. Splitters: I'm going to make my own front and side splitters for the car as soon as I can find a decent source of material. It seems pretty hard to find ABS plastics at a reasonable rate in my area! Sideskirts and front bumper will be removed to make a template out of cardboard for mounting. The template will then be transferred to the ABS material and formed using a jig saw and hole saws. Picked up the 3M a little while ago. First step is a very thorough wash and then I'll be getting to work starting tomorrow! Tobias is going to look pretty different after the weekend is up, assuming all goes well 20180712_151115 by Matt Steele, on Flickr (Still incomplete) 20180715_215657 by Matt Steele, on Flickr 20180715_215727 by Matt Steele, on Flickr Final update!! Knew it...the Apollo hint gave it away
I think it's going to look fantastic! I'm really curious about how the calipers will turn out, lime green is going to be interesting... EDIT: White would be my color of choice from the factory for my car, it's just so easy to keep clean and looking good. Buut, if I ever wrap it, it's gonna be orange, and the plate is going to say TANGRN (read tangerine).

Wooooo! Cant wait to see it. Mine goes in for wrap in a couple weeks. I wasn't happy with how mine was going wrapping it myself. When a buddy who wraps Lamborghinis and Ferraris for a living offered to do it at cost I couldn't say now.
My best advice, be patient |

Orange is always an interesting color, I especially like it on Lamborghinis haha. TANGRN reads to me as "Tan Green" lol Quote:
I can't wait to see it either lol. Patience is great advice and I don't think I could hear that enough before embarking on this project. Wrapping is no easy task and I'm trying to keep that in mind so I don't get frustrated when I start. One of my best friends is a certified 3M installer and offered to do it for me but he's up in NJ and I'm, you guessed it, impatient. LOL.

Maybe N52PWR, or something self-serving like a Tesla driver would pick...

UPDATE: No turning back now! Car has been detailed, and I'm in the process of removing everything that needs removing. I'm going to do the roof last I think so I'm leaving the shark fin for now.

And about 3 seconds after posting that I just noticed I closed the trunk, and the battery is disconnected.... Hopefully I can reach the emergency release from inside through the tail light holes lol

Just have someone to help you out with jumper cables. Connect them to the connection points in the engine bay. That'll give you enough juice to open the trunk, way easier than trying to fish for the emergency release handle lol |

Interested to hear you thoughts on the plastidip for your wheels. I thought about doing my AG M359's matte black the other day.

After having to crawl through my damn trunk to open the doors about 6 times, pulling some more odd paper out of my fender, and many many minutes of ****ing with the 3m... I give you, two major panels COMPLETE!
Super happy with the results so far. It's not perfect but I've already learned a lot. There's one small crease (about a 1/4") at the very bottom of the door panel. Other than that my lines are pretty damn good and I'm very happy so far. I know details are hard to make out in a picture but any critique is welcome! 20180713_162200 by Matt Steele, on Flickr 20180713_171020 by Matt Steele, on Flickr 20180713_185045 by Matt Steele, on Flickr

What color are you going to paint it when you're done? Or... you're not going to leave it white are you? All that work for no color at all?
Or you could go with a classy pattern: So many options, and you're only 2 panels in! You can still make a change! |

I like the classy option LOL. I love the look of a white 1er and got the roll for free so I'm not complaining! I'm also not typically a huge fan of the brighter colors honestly, but might try one next time
