I hate my car so much right now. Also rabbits.
I'll give full details later cos I'm angry and tired right now. Here's the rundown of my day:
-Driver side window COMPLETELY NON-FUNCTIONAL. Not just the thing where it automatically goes down a bit when you open the door, it DOESN'T WORK AT ALL. Absolutely stuck in the closed position. Seems like the power window control isn't even connected to the window. I couldn't actually close the driver's side door from inside the car, had to spend the whole day clambering in from the passenger side. Fuck me. -Got pulled over by a Highway Patrolman for a tailight failure. Great. I had no idea mine was out till he gave me a warning for it. Was taking the car in for the recall this week anyway. But you know what was worse? I COULDN'T ACTUALLY WIND DOWN MY DRIVER WINDOW TO SPEAK TO HIM. -First long crank trying to start the car at 4 degrees outside friend's house. -This is not BMW's fault, but to cap off a shitty day, a rabbit decides to lunge straight in front of my car 200m from my house. I didn't even have time to brake. Just a 'thunk'. Luckily it only left a small mark on the front bumper but a whole lot of gunk over the tyres and wheelarch. Just spent 15mins hosing it off. Fucking BMW. I dish out over 70 grand for a car and I have to spend my day crawling into the driver's seat, getting pulled over by cops and then praying to god I don't limp mode home. F*%&#

If you have to crawl into the drivers seat in a 135i, that is not the fault of the car. The door and seats are very spacious . You must be a large person.

mattyv, jksgoh, thanks guys. Just booked the car in for tomorrow, hopefully all goes well. Though my SA said that the long crank should be addressed by a 'technical update' first

I remember hitting a rabbit in the Subaru. Had a few pieces of game food stuck in my wheel well for a while |

Sorry about your car problems, mate. On the brighter side, sucks to be the rabbit!

Alright everything's sorted. They replaced the driver's side window motor, performed a recall on the tailights and put in the new version of software.
Initially my SA said that the job would not take more than a day so I spoke to my CA who gave me an 'extended' test drive of a silver Z4 sDrive30i Unfortunately something went wrong with the reflash and I had to give the car back and get a 123d loaner for overnight.

Alright I'll give my (honest) opinion of the Z4.
First of all the looks: you can't go past that. Simply amazing. TiAg in my opinion is too 'bland' as an exterior colour, but with the roof down and the coral red interior showing, it just works. Definitely a head turner when I brought it back down to Sydney for the day. The roof folding mechanism is also cool to play with and watch. Interior is much better than our 1ers. I don't know, it might be the amazing red leather playing tricks on me but everything seems higher quality and better put together. I only put the DDC in sport and sport + for the day, and the ride quality seems quite good. Gets a bit firm in sport + just driving around in the city, but absolutely awesome for the run down Old Pacific. A lot of people say that the 3.0L N52 is more than enough. I may have been spoiled by my 135i, but IMO it really isn't. It pulls strongly throughout the rev range, but lacks the 'explosive' force that I'm used to with the N54. A couple of tight corners I ended up in the wrong gear - forgetting that there isn't a massive punch of turbo torque in the midrange. I'd pick the sDrive35i over this in a heartbeat. With the roof down though, the inline 6 wail is simply ORGASMIC. The tranny was also slightly disappointing. I've test driven a step 135i back when I was purchasing my car, and the Z4's ZF doesn't seem to be as crisp and responsive. Still, it shifts adequately in sport+ mode to make the car a blast to drive at speed. Again, the 35i with the DCT would be my pick. Very nice top down tourer, but in my opinion lacks the raw edge that makes our 1ers so great.

Cheers for the review!
I completely agree, this car causes me to drool when I look at it, but the drive on my 135i is going to be very hard to beat. When it comes down to it, it's the drive that matters most! |

I have driven z4 35i with dct. Love the dct over our auto.
The car pushes big though. Major understeer. Even driving at legal speed I can feel bad understeer that Not even the worn out rft on my 135 right now can produce. See Jason Plato on fifth gear agrees with me recently.
