I tried to install my VRSF the other day but could not find anyway to get to the v band due to the steering column and the engine mount. I have seen that the newer F2x models have a hole through the lower control arm to access. I will have to take it to a shop to get it done now.

Hi
Ye I changed mine n55 . It’s possible but bit of a mission . I had remove the the engine mount and have a jack to keep the engine raised . Only then you get access to the Dp |

Have done many DP installs on N54s, that video is pretty useless since we have the steering rack in the way.
For most people I would recommend unbolting the steering shaft from the rack, supporting the engine from above with an engine support and unbolting the 6 subframe bolts and let the subframe hang from the suspension. This wont take long, and will give you plenty of space to remove and install the DPs from the vbands. Have known plenty of people who spent 12 hours underneath the car trying to get the vbands connected in the tight space. Better off spending the 15 minutes to remove the stuff thats in the way instead of trying to do it all in place.

Just did it on my 2010 135i N54 last week.
First/longer DP is a pain, but you can do it without lifting/supporting engine. Second DP is easy after first one is out. Unlock steering wheel height, unbolt steering rack and push to front of car, remove heat shield near driver front tyre. The heat shield space is basically where you fit your right arm with wrench to do most of the work. Getting the Vbands off was harder than getting them back on for me... May not be helpful, but I found it was easiest, to remove stock DPs with top O2 sensors attached (so unplug and take them off clips). But, to install catless DPs without those top O2 sensors and attach them after installing. |

N55 is easy on a 135i. N55 is a pain on an E9x though because the access to the clamp bolt is very difficult. You will need an articulating ratcheting ring spanner as you won't get the angle with a regular one.
