Basic Pro-Tune
What kind of gains have you guys seen with just a custom ECU road tune (like PTF)?
I have a maddad center section and nothing else. Is it worth getting all the Cobb hardware? I'd like to be around 425 crank, but what would it take to get closer to 475? Warranty is out in December!!! |

Depends on how much E85 you want to use, how much longevity you're willing to sacrifice, and whether you're planning to upgrade the turbos.
What are you using the car for? |

I'm judging whether the FMIC and other Cobb accessories are worth it. If anything I am shooting for more linear power delivery and minimizing turbo lag. |

425 hp at the crank is about 361 at the wheels, so that should very possible. 475 is about 404 at the wheels. From what I've seen, that will be hard to safely realize on 93 octane pump gas, especially if your not FBO. The only way to know for sure is to work with a tuner to assess what *your* car will support.

At a minimum you'll have to ditch the oem charge pipe and get an aftermarket one that can handle the increased boost needed to get to 425 hp. Our N54s are underrated, so they're outputting between 360-370 hp stock.
You can minimize turbo lag by upgrading the turbo inlets and going catless. Also, driving with M mode activated reduces lag as well. I'm not sure which pro tunes can retain the M mode functionality, but be sure to ask when trying to select a tuner.

Waking up an old thread . . . just ordered an Accessport V3. I also have the Maddad midpipe as my only engine mod, and plan to keep it that way for now. ER charge pipe going on soon with stock DV's for preventive maintenance.
COChris, did you find that the OTS maps worked well or did you end up getting a custom tune? |

Selecting the linear throttle map from Cobb should retain the throttle response of M mode, but I wonder about the wastegate tuning. I would assume that tuners would know how to optimize that? Is anyone using an OTS map and finding increased lag?

Waiting for the accessport to arrive . . . but planning to do a custom tune due to the midpipe and the fact that I always run 92 octane. That should allow some better gains than a standard stage 1 map which are calibrated to 91 or 93 octane. I can only get 92.

You would be perfectly fine running with 92.

I will load a 91 octane map (stage 1 sport) and run 92, but the midpipe and 92 octane should do better with a custom tune compared top the OTS map. I would hope for a little more power and better fuel economy.

Most likely he means once you have all the bolt ons installed. With no mods and only a custom tune my car is around 330 HP at the wheels. I have some bolt ons ready to install but none on the car yet. Best gains from what i read on these forums to get tward your goals: 1, catless downpipes=helps turbo spool-up lowers egt's better breating on exhaust side. 2, FMIC and charge pipe with at least a drop in K&N or other high flow filter. 3, water/meth injection gets the intake temps way down. These should get you to around the 400 WHP mark
Edit:with the supporting tune for the mods. Last edited by tommyb13662; 07-05-2016 at 04:57 PM.. |

LOL, I was being sarcastic. There is no such thing as being finished when it comes to mods!
I am not planning on a FBO. at most I may eventually change the FMIC, but only if I am seeing intake temps I don't like. For now, it will be the charge pipe, mid pipe, and a KnN drop in filter. |

Accessport installed. OTS Stage 1 linear throttle "Sport" map loaded. Awesome.
I have contacted Ken at Wedge tuning. He was on vacation last week, but I hope to hear back from him soon. |
